Wow, sounds like a tough choice. It sounds like you like the vibe of the prospective employer. It would be nice for you to have a regular schedule out of the house since E will be gone all the time. And with saving for a house, the money will come in handy. You have to look at where you see yourself going in the PR world. If you feel you like the working from home and can try harder to have more freelance work and make good money, then stick with that. But like you said, if you want a career path and want to move up, then you would go back into the corporate world. Sorry if I'm not helping & just reiterating what you said .
Thanks, Patrice. I'm not very good with selling and it's very difficult for me to go after business (at least at this point in my career). I just wait for work to come my way (which is NOT a good way to make money). I think it makes most sense for me to go back to an agency, learn & move up as much as I can, and then one day leave for freelancing so that I can have a flexible schedule if/when we start a family.
Sometimes I wish other people would just make my decisions for me... I'm such a Libra! So indecisive!
It sounds like you have a good plan, being that you know you could do agency work now and then when it is time to start a family, stay at home doing free-lance work. I understand it is hard to jump in and just make a decision.
Sometimes I can't decide if I would still want to work full time when we have a baby. But then right now, I wish I could just retire. But we need a second income since we have the house, and I need a new car etc. etc.
I hear you...I could make a ton more consulting that I did when I took my current job. BUT the steady money and advancement is nice (I almost turned down my job since the pay was "eh" not really an increase over my last job at all...but a year later I make a ton more than I did when I started and have been promoted - so there is something nice about a slightly more corporate spot
( ... )
So late in replying b/c I just now found you, but I have to agree about working at a female-run company. The atmosphere between my old agency and the one I'm at now is so different. I am enjoying it much more. Right now I'm on the management track and I have to say that I kind of miss just doing PR. The management portion of my job is exhausting. People have so many needs and wants that you have to constantly take into consideration that I find I have very little time to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing. I keep telling myself, "I don't know if I'm cut out for this" but we'll see.
