Yoga, taxis and fairy lights

Heya everyone, wow it seems ages since I last wrote in here! This last week has been pretty busy, so I'll spin straight through it (best go get a cup of your favourite poison, sit back and get ready to be bored XD).

Well, first of all, Nam Nam moving in. She was pretty ill last week so we didn't get seriously started moving her out of her flat until last Thursday. Which posed a few problems as she had an awful lot of stuff, deceivingly hidden in each and every corner of her tiny little room. She also had tons of food stashed away in the kitchen (the stereotype that Chinese people really love their food at least has some truth in it, if she is a good example). So, we basically spent all of Thursday and Friday pulling various belongings out of the dark corners they were hidden into and packing them all into boxes. As the day drew on we decided we'd call a big taxi and pile as much as we could into the back. When the first taxi arrived on the Thursday, the look on his face (at the small mountain of stuff piled on the ground) was priceless. Nevertheless, we somehow managed to get all of it (and Nam Nam) into the back. Similarly on Friday, however there was a slight mishap when the taxi driver took one look at Nam Nam's stuff and backed right into the telegraph pole in the middle of the car park. No damage done though, thankfully.

Saturday was a bit hectic, as Nam Nam only chose to tell me that she (and all the other residents) had to be out by 12 noon, as that was when the doors would be locked. We managed somehow though, with time to spare. I still can't believe how much stuff we shifted though. And doubly that it's now all tidied away into my brother's old room, which now looks like a completely different place (and so much nicer!).

While the moving was going on, I was organising my "birthday" party (one and a half weeks late) for that Saturday night. So I texted everyone who I thought would still be in Sunderland (as a lot of my friends are from uni and therefore from various places and countries). I got a few replies, and by Friday night, the number of people going to Nandos (Portuguese restaurant in the town) was 7, including me. By the time everyone had arrived at the restaurant, there were 15. Obviously, I was really happy that so many people came (and brought other people with them) but the waiter was a bit irritated. Everything went fine though, aside from the yoghurt machine splattering me with its contents at the beginning. Hehe, I got lots of really nice presents *grins*.

Nam Nam and Shamal

After the meal, the sensible people went home and the daft people (i.e. me, Nam Nam, Teba and Fredrik) stayed out in the cold and wet (it was raining). We thought we'd see a film, but as all of them were starting much later we decided to go to Fredrik's house (which used to be where Nam Nam stayed). Teba decided to go home, and so the three of us went to Fredrik's, had some tea, sang (Fredrik's a fab guitar player, I got a video recording of him but he wouldn't let me post it) and then stood outside discussing the history behind one of the films out at the moment, Fearless. I was trying to pay attention and it did sound interesting, but the rather resplendent green shiny shoes I was wearing (bought last week) were NOT waterproof and the water had seeped right through them and soaked my feet. We eventually got to the metro station and home, hehe.

Sunday we were tired and so didn't go to City Church (held at the Stadium of Light, our football ground) in the morning. We did some tidying up, then Nam Nam didn't feel so good and so stayed home while I went to church (I was on singing rota so I had to go). Someone messed the lyrics up so I made a few really embarrassing mistakes (see, I was leading the worship with a microphone so singing the wrong lyrics isn't a good idea), but it went well overall. We had hot dogs and choc ices (with St. George's cross napkins, of course) to celebrate England's win this weekend over Ecuador, then we went to Phil and Linda's house for the YPF meeting. We watched the Portugal v Netherlands match, which mostly consisted of members of both teams thumping each other, Portugal members falling over and faking injuries and a lot of outings for the medics. This is why I don't watch football, hehe. We had pizza and Jill (a visitor from Canada who's staying with Phil and Linda) talked.

I got home to discover that my mum, dad and Nam Nam had managed to lock themselves in the living room just after I'd left at 10 to 6 and were still locked in when I got back. Which was incredibly funny for me, but not so funny for them. Then Nam Nam sellotaped the latch firmly so it would never happen again - see, that particular door we don't shut, as if you do you can only open it from the outside. Nam Nam didn't know, and so that's how they ended up stuck. Funny stuff though, hehe.

Yesterday we didn't do all that much - although we stuck up my pink oriental lilly fairy lights around the room (I'll have room photos shortly!) and had a go at Nam Nam's yoga DVD. Considering it was my first go, I didn't do too badly - although I must admit it's a lot harder than it looks.

Anyway, my mum wants to do the shopping (ASDA) so I'd better finish. Oh and tonight we're going to a Salsa class that Kathryn invited us to, so I'll say how that went next time :)
