Proud to be an American
People must be out of their GD minds in Nebraska. Now I know not much goes on in this state widely considered to be the most visited state in the nation, *cough*, but they are stirring some shit up. I was reading about how they are dividing school board districts in three sections, which will be predominantly White, Black, or Hispanic. They are not being to coy about it either, saying that they are trying to ensure that minority youngsters aren't shortchanged. I wonder when they thought seperate but equal was a good idea to bring back up. Plessy V. Ferguson ring a bell? Wow. Noted, I think that most school districts are heavily segregated and that's due in part to the community development. Drawing lines with an explicit purpose, that purpose being race, is illegal when it comes to nastional politics and I would argue that the same principles guiding that policy should guide a policy that makes this illegal. If these children are really at a disadvantage and that is in part due to the school system itself....hmm perhaps Governor Howard should start firing a few people and ruffling some feathers. Why would you ever punish the recipients of the education in order to correct the system that seemingly is failing them? Just another case of backwords politics. I digress.
