The Worry Stone

And here we are, eight weeks later, with only one more week of training. It seems impossible that summer should almost be over, but it is. A week from today I'll be headed toward the airport, bound for Portland and my love and our new house. Whee!

There's a lot to do between now and then--this last week is bound to be crazy, for sure!

So, here are some words of wisdom from the Irish of Connemara. On the last day of the Foundation Course, Molly, our trainer, gave us each a worry stone made of marble from Connemara. On the package were these words:

"There are only two things to worry about: either you are well or you are sick. If you are well, then there is nothing to worry about, but if you are sick then there are two things to worry about: either you will get well or you will die. If you get well then there is nothing to worry about, but if you die then there are two things to worry about: either you go up or you go down. If you go up there is nothing to worry about. But if you go down you will be so busy shaking hands with old friends that you won't have time to worry."

It will take all of my effort to not get sucked into worrying about everything this week: money, finishing all the school work, packing everything, moving next week, starting a new job, figuring out how I'm going to pay off all those loans, getting my damn license for once and for all, etc etc etc.

Molly could not have picked a more appropriate gift for us as future teachers. My little stone has already seen a lot of use...

summer training, daily life, twin cities
