A Turnpike Drive- Nov. 1

Nov 02, 2004 01:37

You never could guess
why she went starring out windows
during long drives
through Pennsylvania
in the fall.

I suppose it was the idea
that
she could pull things together
like needle and thread
bound and stitched
through thoes amish quilts
she saw as a kid,
as bright and as heavey
as textured autum branches.

But the secret is
she never found answers
in those nights
just more questions
that lead to
little developed daydreams
that came and went
with the Pennsylvania
road signs.

The truth is
a daydream
can be
answer enough.
