I Prefer Stars
I’ll take stars over sun. Dark over light. Nothing burns when the moon comes out. Give me the infinite expanse of a trillion dying planets. It’s the closest I come to ocean out here in the desert. I lose myself and find myself when the world sleeps behind closed doors. Dark laps at an empty gravel parking lot. Cash registers are emptied. Trucks stand at a halt. Padlocks dangle from chain link fences. I slip through silence and turn my eyes to the sky. Light drips from a blanket of stars draped over mountains turned black. I drink it all in and smile.
