I'm a riceball!

I broke down and bought Fruits Basket Volumes 18 and 19 from Borders the other day. Now I have to wait until July to find out what happens next! Tree gave me the first volume of Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play to try out, but I miss my Furuba! Here is the song. I just love it. I think I love the series because it's about dysfunctional families (the Sohma family being the most dysfunctional, especially the Zodiac!) and kids who are learning how to live and love, even when their parents (and Akito) rejected or abused them. I guess it's easy for me to identify with the characters and their situations; almost anybody could, I think. Good characters are what drive stories. And, while Kyo is my favorite (if only I were younger...!), I absolutely love Shigure, and not just because he's a writer. He's one of those ambiguous characters like Snape in Harry Potter or Baltar in Battlestar Galactica - a little good, a little bad, and sexy (for an animated character, hee!). I love the English lyrics to the opening song too. I try to take them into my heart, seriously; there is wisdom there.

"For Fruits Basket" (opening song)

I was so happy when you smiled
Your smile breaks through the clouds of grey
Far from the sunny days that lie in sleep

Waiting with patience for the spring
When the flowers will bloom renewed again
Knowing there's more beyond the pain of today

Although the scars of yesterday remain
You can keep on living as much as your heart believes

You can't be born again
Although you can change
Let's stay together always
