omg I'm actually posting!

I was just wondering if any of you have ever used the "Name your own price" feature on Priceline.com. I'm looking for a cheap hotel room in downtown Chicago which really does not exist. So I'm tempted to use it but it freaks me out a little, so I was hoping someone could share their experience. Thanks :D

I've never had luck with priceline. Always too expensive. I have gotten good deals on Orbitz and Expedia. My advice is look into all of the hotel/flight sites of that ilk and use the one that gives you thebest deal.

i'm not actually using priceline to find the hotel, i would do the "name your own price" thing. and from my searching, hotwire is the cheapest site (although a little scary as well since you don't know the name of your hotel until after you book), but it's still too expensive downtown.

Expedia screwed over my family's reservations when we went to New York.

The entire "name your own price" thing isn't very great, though, because I put in prices that just made them laugh.

How adamant are you about being downtown? I was in Oak Park recently and for about the same price of a standard room, I got a suite with a jacuzzi tub that I about died in. Not far, not bad.

yeah, i have a feeling that i'll also put in prices that will make them laugh.
i don't care about staying in the 'burbs as long as it's close to the 'L' and easy to get to from the airport. but downtown would be easier since I plan on us staying out till 4am at least once.

I don't think there are any Country Inn & Suites in the Chicago area, those have always, always treated me well.

You could just go with a Holiday Inn or ultra cheap Red Roof if all you need is a place to crash the night and keep your stuff. I tried plugging in a weekend near by birthday and found the Courtyard By Marriott Chicago O'Hare for $94 a night, in Des Plaines. [shrugs] The bigass suite in Oak Park at the Write Inn, very tiny (may not be as close to things as you'd like, though), and I mean the bigass suite, was 150 some.
