Live Earth
On the home page of msn.com there is a little box. It just appeared one day without any warning. This little box says "make a difference" and is sponsored by Live Earth. (Although, it doesn't appear to look like an ad and no where does it say 'advertisement')
Anyway, for a little over a week now the little box has been asking people to help stop global warming by selecting a pledge from a pull down menu. Each pledge, supposedly, helps to protect the earth in some way.
I'm not going to sign up for this - because I think the whole situation is over dramatized - but I was curious one day to see what "I needed to do to save the planet". The list is pretty silly. i.e. drink water out of reusable glasses.
Also, when looking at this box you'll notice a link where you can go to calculate your carbon footprint. I had some extra time so I took the quiz. Apparently my carbon footprint is "MUCH LARGER THAN AVERAGE". Oh no, I must go save the planet right now (note the sarcasm). The biggest "problem" on why my footprint is so large is because I choose to drive long distances rather than flying and the site insists that I must count road trips as two flights. So, that means that road trips are twice as bad as flying in an airplane? I can't belive that is true. Plus, I save at least 80% by driving. So, that won't change.
Ok, so back to the carbon footprint quiz - my "MUCH LARGER THAN AVERAGE" evaluation is based on the state I live in, the car I drive, how many miles I drive a year, the number of flights I take (i.e. road trips count double) and finally my average monthly electricity bill. With only those factors I'm "MUCH LARGER THAN AVERAGE". Geez, I'd hate to see how high it would go if I actually had a natural gas bill, oil bill or propane bill.
Oh and the funny thing about this is that, the little box, is trying to get 1 million people to pledge to make a difference. They're only at 263,417. haha It was around 258,000 when I first noticed this box a week ago. That's a really low amount of people for the entire online world.
