Yay! We finished! It went a lot different than I expected. I now have 33 XP with no idea what to use it on. I mean, I have ideas, I just don't know where to use it first. Yeah, I can boost my dex to 6. I can get Moon now, and get one of my relics adjusted during the down time to be able to use it without problems. I could easily up my appearance. I just don't know what to do. :( Anyway, here's the update.
So, we stopped in Iceland to get supplies. I suggested that we get a remote control car and mount an infrared camera with on it to use if the smoke is too thick and we need to scout ahead. The others thought that was a good idea. Helena and Clark modified the night vision goggles to have infrared, too. That was pretty cool and awesome.
We get to the island and hover over the... massive spiky construction. Yeah, that's the way to describe it. Massive, because it's giant sized, and it has these spikes protruding out the top. Everyone is dressed in dark clothing. Cesar... wow, he looks like James Bond. We rappel down onto the roof and Mr. Bond cuts out a hole for us to go through in the window glass. Everything is giant sized, of course, even the windows. We can hear, even from here, the machine working. It's just a distant thud, really, at this distance. The room we enter has what looks like armor and clothing to work on the bellows, which are, like, bigger than Cesar. We guess that the clothing is for the frost giants since they have no immunity to heat and fire, duh. Jacob and Storm cut out ponchos from the leathers for those of us who have no immunity to the heat. I turned my nose up at it a little, but stuff it in my pack anyway. I'll use it only when I need it. After all, it would probably affect my stealth.
I jumped up the door and looked out into the hall. It was dark and empty. I turned the handle so Storm could pull it open. Listening when we got into the hall, I could hear a few footsteps off to the left and none to the right. We move down the hall, checking the doors as we come to them. Most are pretty empty, just with tools and armor, though one has another door through which I can hear some even breathing. I slipped through and looked through the other door. There were two hounds with flaming hair sleeping. I quickly retreated back to the others and locked the outer door. We don't need them following us.
We found a door that lead to some stairs. There was also an elevator shaft. It was huge. After some debate, I climbed down, stopping at each landing to listen for any guards. The first three floors were empty. The next had a giant guarding, then two and hounds, and by the time I reached the bottom level where the car was, I heard several giants and hounds moving about. I didn't stay there long, though. It was a bit... warm. I pulled myself up a couple of floors and rested a moment, regaining my breath, then went back up to tell them what I'd found. We debated our course of action again, and I suggested we just go down to the last level I heard was empty and go out into the hall to see if there is another way down. You know, I'm not sure if anyone realized that I was the one making these suggestions. I guess it doesn't really matter, though. I mean, what difference does it make? We still got through rather quietly. I suppose I don't need the praise of my companions. I should be focusing on myself and no one else, right? I should do what's right for me.
N-E-way, we went down to level seven and headed out into the hall. There was movement way down the hall, so we just kept moving. We found a room that was two levels. We went in and Helena said this was a machine that kept the main machine from overheating. There were two female giants keeping an eye on it. We decided the best course of action was (and I had a lot of input in this as well) to turn the wheels to just make the machine start acting up. The giants would have to climb up, which would mean they would be distracted, and that would give the less stealthy people time to move to the lower level. I offered to do it, since I could see down there and could just slip through a shadow. Unfortunately, the damn things must have been rusty, because I was having a time trying to move the damn things. Storm finally flew up and helped me. When the giants began climbing up, we waited for the others to get down and then followed, slipping out the door and into the hallway.
This hall had a bit more noise. I could hear giants and the machine was much louder here, too. We must bet getting closer to our goal. But the noisy giants might be a problem. I slipped ahead and noticed we'd found the dining hall, which Jacob had muttered just before I left. A little further down was another open doorway with one of the ice bridges and a frost giant patrolling. He was way on the other end, though. I smirked when I came back and told Jacob he'd been right. Those giants were preoccupied enough that we could slip past easily without detection. We came to the end of the hall where there was a door to a room where the hounds slept, a door that lead to more stairs, but was guarded, and there was a hole up in one wall from which smoke was coming out. Cesar and I climbed up to look in the hole. It went down another five floors, down to the bottom, and had openings on each level. We called Sam up to see what he could tell, since his vision is a bit better than ours. He confirmed what we'd seen and figured out. It was Cesar's turn to scout. He found the machine and a few giants, some really frickin' huge, too. Once he got back up, we had a hard time figuring out what to do. It was damn frustrating that I couldn't help. I'm the best at stealth, but I can't handle the heat. Cesar said it was pretty oppressive down there. Helena was upset because she couldn't go down, either, to see the machine. I sat there wracking my brain. I thought about my Aegis, but we're not mortal anymore... but, it does work on objects! I asked Jacob if he had it, which he does, and he's a little better at it than me. He puts the Aegis on the camera from the RC car. Cesar was going to go down into the hole and record the machine for Helena to see (wireless to her laptop, of course), and then she could tell him what to do. Storm held the rope for Cesar to climb down. The rest of us figured that the best way to get out would be to go out onto the ice bridge (one frost giant isn't THAT big a deal) and Storm could throw us up to the roof where the plane was and we could all scale or fly back up.
While Cesar was being sneaky and getting instructions from Helena on what to do to the machine to fuck it up, I decided to keep the giants off our tails. At first I was going to ward the doorway to the mess hall, but on second thought, warding the doorway out onto the ice bridge was probably a better idea. Yeah, it wouldn't stop the hell hounds, or whatever they were, but it would stop the giants, and I was pretty sure the hounds would have a bit of trouble on the ice. Once Helena had given Cesar the way to disable the machine, the others came up behind me and we went to take out the frost giant. I used the ice and my dexterity to my advantage. And without Cesar there, I was first to go. I ran forward and slid across the ice between the giant's legs. As I reached it, I stabbed out with my claw to slow me down. I hit, rather well, but my claws lodged in boot leather. It couldn't penetrate. Well, screw this! Holding on with one claw, I pulled out my other glove and stabbed him in the leg, repeatedly. I really couldn't see what the others were doing, but I could hear Jacob in my ear telling me to keep hitting its hamstring. I figured he was coordinating the attack. It took me three strikes, but on the third, I could actually feel the tendon splitting. He was falling, so I pulled out my claw and helped him off the bridge. Storm and Cesar showed up momentarily and Storm tossed us up. We got on the plane and were flying away as the whole place blew up in a column of flame. That was pretty damn spectacular. And so, we have saved the world, taking out a bunch of titanspawn in the process, and meeting new people and gods. For just over a week's worth of work, that wasn't a half bad job. I wonder, though, what's going to happen when I get home and what will happen the next time one of the others call. Where is my life going from here? I guess I just have to wait and see.
