According to a
Reuters article, Leo DiCrappio is producing a live action version of the Japanese animé, Akira. Um, okay, admittedly I've not watched the whole thing in one sitting, but I have never understood why Akira is the be all/end all of animé to Americans. I found the artwork below par (hell, Voltron was better), and the story was confusing. I really should watch the subtitled version to see if it's any better. (Yes,
naharina, I realize I still have your copy and really need to get those back to you sometime soon!) But how is this going to translate into a live-action movie produced by an American? Oh, and it will be directed by an Irishman who has never directed a movie before. Yeah, great, directorial debut trying to make a live-action movie out of a "classic" animation. I honestly don't see this working very well. Oh, especially when you move the story to "New Manhattan". WTF? Just rewrite the entire story, why don't you? Why can't anyone leave well enough alone? Ugh.
