We took a family trip this weekend - about 36 hours round-trip to Mystic, CT! It's a quick and easy 3-hour drive from here (let me remind you all that I am a Westerner at heart, and therefore have a Western attitude toward distance and car travel), and so totally fun!

The Sea Swirl (clam shack/ice cream place) in Mystic is awesome. When I was at Williams-Mystic, we used to stop there on our way back from marine ecology labs. Yum!

The Seaport is a very cool place. I really wish I'd done my maritime history paper using some of the primary sources there, instead of whatever it was that I wrote about.

I didn't know you went to the W-M program! When we started planning this trip (kind of on a whim), I didn't know anything much about this place, but we had SUCH a good time.

My semester there was sort of up and down, but the Seaport is unreservedly cool.

Little boy liked it, too.

Sounds like a great time! We were just down there this past weekend as well, visiting my folks. We were' about 1/2 decision away from probably bumping in to you at the seaport or the aquarium, but ended up going swimming instead :)

Aw, no Mystic Pizza? When I was working an hour from there, I drove up just so I could say I'd eaten there. It wasn't the greatest, but it's a neat place.

We walked right by it - but the amazing clam chowder was eaten instead, just down the road a piece. Totally worth missing out on the pizza. :)

Oh, awesome! I haven't been to Mystic Seaport since I was a kid.

And I hear you about having a Westerner's notion of distance. Hee. Yes. Though I think all of this will be easier in a few years when we have a slightly older kid who is slightly more sanguine about car trips... :-)
