So last tuesday i went into Carinos again to talk to a couple of the people i hadn't seen since i quit. As i'm sitting there talking to them, i find out that all the dumbasses got fired, including the former manager. This includes my crack addict former coworker, and the manager who came in drunk two days a week. "You know, it's a lot better here, you should give it a try again." So i hung around and waited for the manager to appear, and talked to him about starting again. He checks my contact info in the computer, and says he'll have the general manager give me a call for an interview.
Wednesday night, i get the call for the interview. The next afternoon i go in and talk to the new GM about all the things they've changed, and why i should bother coming back. One thing i made absolutely clear was that i wouldn't work one of my old shifts, noon to midnight on sunday, with about 2/3 of the shift working by myself. Note, that included working the end of the lunch rush and the beginning of the dinner rush by myself, something most of their employees couldn't handle. Anyway, we finish with the interview, and he says he'd like me to start friday (the next day). I ask him if i could maybe wait a week, but he implies that he has other people he's interviewed, and needs someone immediately. Reluctantly, i started : \
The shift went as they typically did when i worked there before, managers cutting people early and often. By 9:30pm, there were four people left on the line, including a dishwasher who didn't speak english, or know how to make anything. I managed to break down the saute station by myself, albeit a lot slower than i used to, and talk to the manager about getting a schedule. "Well, they didn't tell us anyone was starting this week, so we don't have any shifts open for you to take. I'll give you a call between noon and one tomorrow to let you know when we'll need you." Another note here, i asked whether they absolutely needed me, because i had plans the next day that i'd prefer not to break, and he assured me that they would need me to come in, probably around 2-3pm.
Saturday night, about 6pm, i finally get a phone call. "Hey man, we're not going to need you to come in tonight. Dan (the new GM), wanted to know if you'd mind coming in and helping clean tonight after we get the kitchen closed down. Can you make it in?" This is where i kind of snapped, and told him in not quite these words that there wasn't any chance. "Okay, i'll give you a call tomorrow morning and let you know what time to come in then."
Sunday, i never get a phone call.
Monday, i called them, and asked if they had any plans to actually put me to work. "Yeah man, we really could've used you this weekend, but Dan didn't want to raise the labor."
I quit tuesday.
