"How can it be bullsh^t to state a preference?" davesawyer June 12 2003, 23:54:36 UTC
Good point, Rob. Let me be the voice of peace and reasoning when I say first of all, we can't really say one person's opinion is incorrect - the very nature of an opinion is based on one's own thoughts, not on anything factual. Secondly, I think it's unfair to a band like Radiohead to say which is their "best" work. With a more typical band, you might could say one album turned out better than the other, i.e. Metallica in Black vs Load. But I don't think Radiohead's intention is ever to try and top their greatest album, or that Kid A or Amnesiac was any kind of let down because it didn't produce a bunch of singles. No. I believe Radiohead just records albums as they see fit at the time, which may be the reason they are so diverse. On the note of diversity, can we really compare an album like The Bends to Amnesiac? Lastly, I think we're comparing the best of the best here. I know Kev's feelings on Pablo Honey are not positive, but overall I think most people would agree that all of their albums are top quality. How can you really compare six 5 star albums?

All that being said, without ranking them, I'd say I prefer Radiohead's less straightforward stuff (Kid A and Amnesiac) versus their more alt-rock albums like Pablo Honey and The Bends. Not many bands can really say they produce material like Amnesiac or Kid A.
