Living on Love

Feb 22, 2006 00:06

He walks back to his room, still licking the sweet taste of her lip gloss off his lips, reveling in the love, joy, and peace he feels. He shakes his head as he thinks of the road that has brought him here. Then one final memory of that road shows its ugly head - a sharp pain shoots from somewhere behind his kneecap into every fiber of his leg. He keeps his composure and looks up at the stars, thinking about that girl and their God. It’s at this point he realizes there are no stars. This night is unlike any other - no pink moon, no cityscape worth of starlight…

What was this night meant to be? But when the pain shot back up his leg, and the warmth and calm he had previously felt beat it into submission, he realized something he had never before. This was where he was meant to be. Here, in the middle of the state he had once heralded as Heaven. Here, learning about the risen and living Christ, training to become a man of God and a man in general. Here, spending his days focusing on friendships; with his friends, his deity, and the love of his life. He smiled as he thought of her. She was so special. She would always hold a place in his heart - but not the same place that all the others had held. No, their place had been carved into his heart and soul because of bad decisions and horrible regrets. But her place was their because of patience, kindness, and a blessing from God.

The pain shoots back up his leg. He realizes now that this, too, is a sign; a sign of things to come. He is to make it back to the mat. He is to keep on fighting, keep on striving, no matter what stares he gets in the weight room, or what his parents and friends tell him. It’s his body - he knows how it responds and how it feels. He knows if his knee is able to handle another takedown…another period…another match…

He shakes it out of his head and smiles. He loved God. He loved this place. He loved that sport. And he loved her. There was nothing else in this world he needed. Sure, money and a house - but he believed that even without those, a happy life, envied by most, could be formed. Maybe you could live on love after all…
