The bad news first. My position will be eliminated in March of 2009. My daughter's will be eliminated in November of this year.
The good news; I have 9 months to find a job? It could be worse. They could have handed us our pink slips right off. I've applied for 4 positions within the company that won't be shipped off to India or Poland or Guatamala. They threw Hot Springs, Arkansas in there as well but I have a hard time believing that people in Hot Springs, Arkansas will work for wages comparable to India! I think that was just to shut us up about oursourcing overseas. We all know our positions are going to India but why do they think we care that they are? India, Africa, the North Pole--who really cares except that they are NOT staying here in this country?!!
I also have a lead for a position at a lawyer's office. I sent in my resume but we shall see. I'm not sure that the pay will be comparable and I'd like to stay at the same company as I've built up vacation time plus the few perks that go with working for a major corporation. I get 22% off my cell phone, discount travel rates, discounts off GMAC or Ford vehicles (not that I can afford a new car!) and discounts on major hotel chains (not that I can afford a vacation, either!). Also, I get reimbursed for my medical as I don't need that. So many things to consider.... I need to get a few interviews first, though. I applied for one internal position over 6 weeks ago!! I contacted HR and I am still being considered but haven't gotten that interview yet. I know how things work for me. I will either get nothing or everything will all happen at once and I won't know what to do. I HATE this!!!
My son is still looking for work as well. I think he thought it would be easy to find something once he got his bachelor's degree but no, not so. Unemployment is so bad here in FL. I sure do hope that with a new administration things will turn up.
