OMG OMG OMG OMG
So, a question. Watching McCain's concession speech, I was not impressed. But I find on TV and the 'net that I seem to be the only one. Can folks help me see what they saw in it?
Overall I thought it was functional, in that it did what a concession has to do: acknowledge the winner, say nice things about them, tell supporters to start thinking about unity. But I didn't see anything that put it above functional into the realm of "classy" or "very very gracious", as I've seen it described.
In addition, I was seriously disgusted by his discussion of race, which seemed ungracious as well as showing a very weak understanding and absolutely no personal attachment.
What did I miss in the speech? Or is it just that my standard for "classy" is unreasonably high for a concession speech which is, after all, not a fun speech act?
