Remaining episodes of Smallville: speculations (and how Oliver may fit on them) Warning: Spoilers

Feb 28, 2011 21:54

Only 6 episodes left to Smallville to be over. Well, 7 if you count the last two of the finale as individual episodes.
Scion- Kent- Booster. Dominion- Prophecy and the 2 hours finale, which we still don't have a title for.... I've been thinking a fitting finale title would be "The stars finally aligned" since TPTB seems to love that quote.. lol.

Anyway, from what I know this far, I think Scion, Kent and Booster are filler episodes. Filler not in a bad sense, but in the sense that are not related to the main story, which is supposed to be Darkseid.  The way I see it, each episode will be wrapping up certain characters and stories:

- Scion will be dealing with Connor Kent. Im still not sure why TPTB went with including Connor Kent this late on the game, other than have another DC character to brag about. IMO, it was a last minute move. If Michael wasn't returning, they would have probably used Alexander in the finale. But if Michael said yes, which is what happened, then the alternative story to give use and ending to Alexander would be this, making him become Connor Kent. I may be wrong, but the way things have developed this is what I can interpretate.

- Kent: Lionel and Jonathan will be in this episode, and this episode will be dealing with Earth 2. So basically is about to wrap AU Lionel character. Again, and just IMO.. the only sense of bringing Lionel back was to please fans and have another original character close to the finale. Other than that, I don't see how he has added anything to the main story and main characters. Not even through taking QI away from Oliver, because this far we haven't seen anything about that, we are only assuming things from what the characters have said. Lionel will dissapear on Kent, and next we will know is that Ollie got QI back. I'd wish we could have seen more of this story, but I understand how that story didn't make it to be part of onscreenville, right now TPTB has too much in their hands to handle. And Jonathan will be back because.... I really don't know why he will be back either, TBH. I figure it will be to give Clark one final fatherly speech about how proud he is of his son and give him another push in the supes direction. I guess is important for Clark, but I have no idea how they will tie Kent to what we saw of Jonathan in the premiere.

- Booster. well, this one is completely a filler. The way I see it, has nothing to do with the main arc, the secondary stories or anything about this season. But Im not saying it in a bad way. I have really enjoyed previous GJ's episodes, so Im still interested in this one. Geoff knows how to make fun action-packed episodes, and yet add something to the main arc, so I will probably have to take back my opinion of the episode being a filler, after I watch it.

From what we know and assume this far, these are the 3 episodes that Justin has left to miss.

Now, about the 3 last episodes. Here's is where everything gets a little confusing:

Dominion and the 1st part of the finale will be the last episodes to be shooted. Prophecy was already shooted, and also the 2nd part of the finale.

We know Lex will be in the second part of the finale. Michael is already on set. So I would assume the first part could deal with Darkseid, but maybe not, because the other option is that the 1st part of the finale deals with Clois and the wedding, which is very likely IMO, since I can't see Clois wedding fitting on Prophecy, let alone Dominion.

So, if things are as I think, Darkseid will have to be dealt with in previous episodes.

We already know Prophecy will feature the come back of Supergirl. From the title, I guess we can assume this episode will be about the kryptonian heritage and all that jazz. Another theory talks about the prophecy of Rao, but I could only see that related to Zod coming back, and Callum hasn't been on set yet, which means he's not in Prophecy. This episode could be dealing with Darkseid too, since in the comics Supergirl has been possesed by Darkseid, but after seeing in the episode Supergirl that it was actually her who saved Clark from the darkness, it wouldn't have much sense to have her possesednow .  Plus, I haven't been able to tie the title to Darkseid, so that's why I have my doubts.

So, what we have left is Dominion. Like I said, there's only left to shoot this one and then the 1st part of the finale.  Dominion starts shooting next week.. and YAAAAYYYYY Justin is directing it!!!!! :D So excited about that!!! Can't wait to watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, after fangirl moment, let's continue.

I looked for the meaning of the word dominion, to see if I could get any clues. this is what I found:

Dominion: Sovereign or supreme authority; the power of governing and controlling; independent right of possession, use, and control; sovereignty; supremacy. Superior prominence; predominance; ascendency.

And from what Ive wrote, this should be the episode where Zod shows up. If he's only coming back to have one more fight face to face with Clark just because, I fail to see how that can be useful to the story. So, IMO, Zod coming back its related to Darkseid.

Zod's desire was to rule the Earth, but he couldn't. He's angry and full of hate towards Clark and the human race. From both POV's, he'd be the perfect vessel for Darkseid.

Im imagining this is the way Clark should confront Darkseid (through a vessel), because of two reasons:
- Yeah, its possible TPTB brings the typical corporeal form of Darkseid of the comics, which we saw a glimpse on the s9 finale. BUT, I figure to do it this way that would require money for SE, and Im thinking most of the resources will be focused for the finale.
- And because, the other kind of confrontation would be not physical but mentally... and... Im sorry.. but I can't see Clarkie doing that, no offense....

So, back to the meaning of the word Dominion, Both Zod and Darkseid want the same.. to rule the Earth (power of governing and controlling), plus Zod being full of hate, it would be really easy for him to be possesed by the Darkness. OTOH, from what I've read, Darkseid needs a powerful being to be his vessel, and I guess Zod fits the category.
Now, don't ask me how Zod will get free from the PZ, cuz I have no idea.

The only but of this theory... Callum is not a big guy, he's shorter than Tom and thinner, so it will look odd to see Darkseid in a body smaller than Clark's, when he's supposed to be way bigger than Clark and humans.

Anyway, to the important part... where Oliver fits in all this??? My answer is... I have no idea.....

Im thinking Ollie+Darkness inside will be dealt with on Dominion (this would mean Justin will be full of work that week, because I think Oliver would be prominent on that episode, and he'll also be directing). Going back to the meaning of the word Dominion: independent right of posession, use and control. It could be related to Oliver's free will, about him being able to get rid of the Darkness and the controlling effects it will have on him.

What bothers me about Dominion being the episode to close Oliver's arc. is that it means that's all he'll get.. one episode (okay okay, I know I said I can't expect more considering all they have to deal with, yet the Ollie fan in me would want to see him having more relevance in more episodes).

The alternative is that Ollie's story will be wrapped in Prophecy, but what goes against that idea, IMO, is the title Prophecy, is that is the Supergirl episode, and I can't see how she could be related to Ollie's arc (they haven't even met in person), and Clark will be busy with his cousin, to be able to help Ollie.
And I can def see Zod more related to Darkseid and Oliver's darkness (let's not forget Zod already tried to tempt him to choose his side on Sacrifice..).
And I'll be honest, the fan in me wants another Zod/Oliver confrontation (don't tell anyone, but biased me thinks their scene in Sacrifice was way more epic than Clark/Zod fight on s9's finale...).

BUT yeah, despite all I've said, is still possible Oliver's arc will be wrapped in Prophecy (that would mean his story will have minimal importance on the episode), but maybe is possible that the triad Clark-Kara-Oliver will join forces to defeat Darkseid.

Now, about how Oliver will get rid of the Darkness, please bear with me, I know I already wrote a big long post before rambling and ranting about this.  All I want to say now, is that DC supports my opinion of how Oliver should deal with this. How is that, you must be asking?.
A couple of days ago I watched again the s6 feature "The Legend of Green Arrow" (I swear it was not on purpose, I was trying to watch "Buried" and tv didn't let me, so instead started playing the next vid in the list, which was this...)
Well, in a part of that feature, Mark Waid, a comic book writer, is describing Oliver's experience on the island, and how that shaped him in the hero he is now, and he says "...it makes him (Oliver) realize is about self reliance, that if you don't have nothing else to fall back on, you gotta find the strenght in yourself....."    Thanks Mark Waid! This is exactly the way I see Oliver should deal with the darkness inside him.

I know even after all the sense I tried to make from the spoilers and comic background,  is highly probable Im wrong about everything and things will go completely different to what Im assuming. But, and even though I don't usually like to speculate, Im dying here wanting to know more about Oliver's arc, so I wanted to share (again) my thoughts.

I need to get a life.
