story time!

last night:
we celebrated my roommate leigh's 21st birthday in an incredibly classy way. i bought him a couple bottles of wine and a 6-pack and we camped out on the grass in front of the eiffel tower, along the edge of the seine. (even after 4 months of living here, a 15-minute walk from the eiffel tower, i still can't believe it's real.) 10-ish of our friends came and met us, and we enjoyed our alcohol picnic until 1 or 2am, i think. then everyone walked over to our place... and i had to link arms with thibault because i was a little balance-challenged at that point... :P (i also didn't really remember the walk home until this afternoon when i thought about how we got from the picnic to the apartment... oops! hehe.) most people trickled out by about 3, but philippe and thibault stayed until 4:30, and elika spent the night. (philippe and thibault are some of the first truly wonderful guys i've met in paris... and i definitely have a bit of a crush on philippe... i'm glad the nice guys have started to come out at the end of my stay here...) in any case, pictures are posted on facebook, as are pictures from my (debaucherous) birthday celebration last week.

today:
elika, eva, and i went to giverny to see monet's house and gardens. the train doesn't go to the town of giverny, but to a town called vernon, about 6 km away. instead of figuring out the bus or taking a cab, we rented bikes for about $10 and rode them through the rural countryside to giverny. it was so beautiful!! the next time i have enough money for a vacation (hopefully next summer, but probably not) i want to take a bike tour in europe. anyone want to start saving up with me?

in general:
i honestly cannot get a firm grasp on the fact that in 13 days i will be leaving paris. this experience will be over. a 4-and-a-half-month-long chapter in my life will be finished. done. yikes!
