i have the happy thoughts... now all i need is fairy dust!
every once in a while, things just fall into place. (quick prayer of thanks.)
i now officially have a paid internship for next school year. i will be working for the martina arroyo foundation (www.martinaarroyofoundation.org) - with martina arroyo herself. (she is a world-famous opera singer who has set up a foundation to educate opera singers in technique, not just singing but acting, character development, scene analysis, and so on. i believe she also teaches at indiana university, which is only one of the top classical voice schools in the country.)
anyway, this lady is freaking amazing. naturally, she is close personal friends with nancy shankman, who got me the hook-up. well, she half got me the hook-up... she made the connection for me and got ms. arroyo to agree to pay me (and pay me pretty damn well, too)... but mama shanks wouldn't have been able to get me the internship if i didn't already have the experience doing an identical job in milwaukee. time to send a thank-you email to my kick-ass boss at the florentine (opera company) for the experience she has given me!
on that note, i am getting SO excited to go back to the florentine this summer. i already know i'll be given a lot more responsibilities than i was last summer, because i don't need to spend the time learning how to do the job. i'll also be able to go out for drinks with my bosses (who hate it when i call them "bosses" because they're only about 27 years old...) so i am le excited for that as well.
in other news, my sister is nuts. for many, many reasons. however, she is getting married on 09/08/07. how cute is that? (it is also randomly my grandparents' anniversary, which she didn't know, as well as my friend's parents' anniversary.) the colors are dark purple and maroon. i am the maid of honor. uh, i might have to go wedding-dress and maid-of-honor-dress shopping this summer. scary? ... fun!! they are getting married in our catholic church at home, which was a shock to both myself and my mother. the reception will be at the venice club, right next door... a nice classy affair... and all of these plans have been made and booked in the past few weeks and i didn't find out until fucking TODAY when i talked to my mom! awesome. thanks for including me in the excitement, sis! oh well. i still get to wear a pretty dress. :)
