“And now let us welcome the newest addition to the Warblers, Kurt Hummel.”
Blaine snapped his head up to see a boy he’d never seen before come walking through the doors of the show choir’s rehearsal room, heading for the council’s desk. So that was the new transfer student he’d heard about in the hallways. As Blaine joined in the applause he let his eyes take in this new boy. He was very handsome with a tall, lithe body, broad shoulders, and bright expressive eyes.

Then Blaine noticed something else that made him double take. He thought he saw cat ears perched on the top of Kurt’s head. Blaine blinked a couple of times then looked again, but this time he could see nothing atop his head but a pile of carefully styled chestnut locks. Blaine decided his eyes were just playing tricks on him. Of course Kurt didn’t have cat ears.

That was insane.

By now Wes, at the head table, was talking again and Blaine put aside his strange hallucination to actually pay attention to what was happening. He watched as Kurt was given the duty of caring for the Warbler’s own pet warbler. He nervously told a joke which had no effect on Blaine’s fellow club members though he actually did find it funny and couldn’t help but chuckle. Blaine was forced to remember when, not long ago, he’d stood in front of the Warblers on his first day after transferring. He’d been scared stiff. Kurt probably felt the same way.

Kurt took a seat, choosing a spot well removed from any of the other boys. As the rest of the meeting went on normally Blaine couldn’t help but let his eyes keep wandering back to this new student. He noticed the way Kurt’s shoulders remained tense, and the way his fingers fidgeted in his lap. He also couldn’t help staring at the top of Kurt’s head again as if he thought maybe he could will the cat ears back into existence. But if they had ever existed beyond Blaine’s deluded mind they were determined to remain hidden now.

Kurt seemed to feel Blaine’s gaze because he caught Blaine staring at him more than once. Each time Blaine would quickly move his eyes to look back up at the council’s desk. Each time he looked back he noticed that Kurt’s very human ears were colored with a light blush. It was completely adorable.

Blaine silently resolved to go introduce himself once the meeting was over. However, as soon as the meeting came to an end Kurt was up and out of the room before Blaine could even stand up.

Whether at meetings or in the few classes they shared Kurt would always come in just before the bell and would leave as soon as the teacher uttered the word ‘dismissed’. Blaine had trouble even finding Kurt in the hallways.

This only served to fuel Blaine’s curiosity even more. Especially because he started seeing those ears again. It was always out of the corner of his eye, or if he was just glancing at the other boy. They would always be there, perched at the top of Kurt’s head and covered with a light brown fur that matched Kurt’s hair. But every time Blaine tried to get a better look they would be gone and Kurt would have normal human ears like everyone else.

Blaine once tried mentioning it to Jeff during a meeting.

“Have you noticed something strange about Hummel?” he whispered.

“What? Like how he barely ever talks to anyone?” Jeff whispered back.

“Like… his head. Something on his head.” Jeff just gave Blaine a confused look so Blaine decided he was being crazy and dropped it.

Then finally Blaine found Kurt between classes. One morning Blaine was feeling particularly tired after writing a paper almost the entire night, so he decided to slip into the lounge where the coffee was and quickly get a brew going so that he could have a cup after his next class was over.

Kurt was sitting in one of the armchairs. Blaine forgot about the coffee and stopped in his tracks. Kurt didn’t appear to be doing anything in particular. He was just sitting there, his back straight and his eyes avoiding Blaine’s. Blaine’s eyes flicked up, as usual, to the top of Kurt’s head, but there was nothing there.

“Hi,” said Blaine. Kurt seemed to force himself to look up.

“Hello,” said Kurt. Blaine walked forward offering his hand.

“I’ve been wanting to introduce myself. I’m Blaine.” Kurt looked at Blaine’s hand for a moment as if it was some foreign object and then slowly lifted his own to shake.

“Kurt,” he said before quickly releasing Blaine’s hand.

“Yeah, I know, we’re in the Warblers together.”

“Right,”

“So what are you doing here?” asked Blaine trying his very best to act friendly. Now that he was closer to Kurt he could see the other boy’s eyes more clearly. Blaine was captivated by color of them which seemed to shift between different shades of blue and green like a rare gemstone.

“Just waiting to go to class,” said Kurt. “I don’t like being in the hallways when they’re crowded.”

“Oh,” said Blaine, realizing that this must be why Kurt was always first and last to every class. “You’re claustrophobic?”

“Something like that.” Kurt rose to his feet. “We should be going. The bell’s going to ring in a second.”

“Yeah,” said Blaine only just remembering that he was going to make coffee. “Sure you don’t want to skip and have coffee with me?” he asked brightly.

“I’m having a hard enough time catching up without missing class,” Kurt replied. And with that he left.

But now Blaine knew where to find Kurt in and he started to make a habit of tracking down the mysterious boy to take advantage of the brief seconds they had between classes. Kurt continued to be standoffish at first and even seemed irritated that Blaine was coming to talk to him so much. After a while, though his remarks started to come accompanied with a flicker of a smile and that adorable blush at the tips of his human ears. Blaine started to make it his goal to see those small signs of happiness and each time they appeared Blaine could feel his stomach flip.

“You should study with me sometimes if you’re really having trouble in some of these classes,” said Blaine one day a few weeks later. “We could help each other out. We could do it afterschool.”

“But what about Warbler rehearsal?” asked Kurt.

“Warblers don’t meet on Fridays. We could do it then.” When Kurt looked hesitant Blaine added, “It wouldn’t have to be for long. Just a half an hour. You’d have plenty of time to get home and enjoy your weekend.” And there was the smile again. Just at the corner of Kurt’s mouth but it still left Blaine feeling warm.

“Alright. Sure,” Kurt said.

Fridays became the highlight of Blaine’s week. At the end of the day Kurt would be waiting for him in the lounge, his books out and ready to go. Blaine did his best to stay focused on the work. He found that Kurt was actually quite smart and the only reason he was behind at all was because the workload at his previous school hadn’t been even close to what it was at Dalton. It wasn’t long before Kurt was quite caught up and even started to help Blaine with things he didn’t understand. Blaine loved the cool determined look in Kurt’s eyes when he was solving a problem or writing an essay. He loved the way that Kurt could explain things in a way that Blaine had never thought of before. He loved when Kurt made a snarky remark about something in the text. He loved how soft Kurt’s skin felt every time their hands accidently brushed, and the way it sent sparks up Blaine’s arm.

Then one day Blaine had a strange dream. He was in the lounge, his and Kurt’s math books on the table, but Kurt was nowhere to be found. There was a cat, though. It was a beautiful cat with brown tabby fur and those gorgeous blue-green eyes which he fixed on Blaine.

Blaine woke up in his seat, his face pressed against a page of algebra. When he looked around he realized he was still in the lounge, but there was no cat to be found. There was no Kurt either. He stood wondering what had happened and how on earth he’d managed to fall asleep in the middle of a study session. Then Kurt came into the room, buttoning his blazer.

“Where’d you go?” asked Blaine.

“Bathroom,” said Kurt.

“I’m sorry, Kurt,” said Blaine. “I didn’t mean to fall asleep on you like that. I didn’t even realize I was that tired.”

“It’s alright,” said Kurt, but from the look in his eyes Blaine got the sense that it was far from alright. Blaine felt terrible and reached out to put a hand on Kurt’s arm but Kurt jerked away from him.

“Kurt…”

“I should be going Blaine. And you know, maybe we don’t need these study sessions anymore. I’m doing just fine with the work now.”

Blaine’s heart seemed to drop in his chest. “But, I thought we were having fun. I like spending time with you Kurt. I’m so sorry if I offended you.”

“No, Blaine. You haven’t offended me,” said Kurt sincerely though he continued to put his coat on. “I just have a long ride home, and my family has dinner together on Fridays so I really need to start getting home earlier.”

“Oh,” Blaine wasn’t sure what to do. “Alright, I understand.” Kurt gave Blaine one of his smiles and left.

Time went on and Blaine continued to meet Kurt between classes but he still missed their time together studying. He wished he knew why Kurt was so distant, and not just to him but to everyone at school. Blaine supposed that it could just be part of Kurt’s personality, but didn’t the most introverted person still have friends?

As the end of the semester approached Blaine hoped that Kurt would at least come out of his shell long enough to attend the Annual Warbler Holiday Party. He mentioned it several times in front of Kurt, hinting at how much he’d love to see Kurt there. Kurt tended to avoid the subject until Blaine asked him directly.

“Are you going?”

“Going?” Kurt asked

“To the Warbler Holiday Party.”

Kurt looked hesitant. “Wasn’t planning on it.”

“Oh, Come on, Kurt! It’ll be fun! I know you’re not much of a people person, but you don’t even have to interact with anyone. You and I can just stand in the corner and judge everyone else when they start to act crazy.” Kurt smiled. “Please. Pretty please.”

“Alright, alright,” said Kurt the corners of his mouth twitching up even farther. “If it means so much to my personal stalker then I’ll go.”

“Hey!” said Blaine at being called a stalker. “I resent that.”

“You do stalk me, though.”

“I’d like to call it persistent friendship.” They both laughed.

The Holiday Party arrived and Blaine couldn’t have been more excited for it. They were allowed to attend in normal clothes and Blaine was soon very grateful for this when he saw Kurt dressed in a flattering blue sweater and dark tight pants that made Blaine’s mouth go dry.

They both got drinks and found a corner where they could people watch like Blaine had promised, though as usual Blaine spent much more time with his eyes on Kurt than on anyone else.

“You never told me,” Blaine finally said, “why you transferred here.”

“You never asked.”

Blaine chuckled. “True. So why did you?”

Kurt looked uncomfortable and Blaine was about the withdraw the question when Kurt said, “I was being bullied… for being gay.”
Blaine felt a surge of empathy. “Kurt, I’m so sorry.”

“Don’t be. I’m much better here at Dalton. I came because of the zero tolerance harassment policy.”

“I know,” said Blaine and Kurt looked at him. “I mean, I understand because that’s why I transferred too. I was picked on for being gay.” Kurt looked at him with surprise and something else Blaine couldn’t read. They stayed like that for a while until Blaine broke the silence. “Here, let me get you some more to drink.”

When he came back Kurt was leaning against a doorway watching as Nick attempted to catch the Gummi Bears that Jeff was throwing at his mouth. As Blaine approached he wondered if maybe someone had spiked the punch because coming out of Kurt’s pants appeared to be a long tail. He closed his eyes for a moment and shook his head before looking again. He must have imagined it because the tail was gone.

“Here you are,” he said, handing Kurt his drink.

“It’s nice,” said Kurt.

“What?” asked Blaine.

“It’s nice to know I’m not alone.” Blaine smiled.

“Yeah, it is,” he said. His eyes moved back down to see if he could find the tail again and when he looked up Kurt was giving him a strange look. He realized it must look like he was just checking out Kurt’s ass. He felt his cheeks flush read and he looked around for something to talk about. He looked up and noticed something hanging in the doorway.

“Hey look,” he said. “Mistletoe.” But when he looked back down, Kurt was gone.

He couldn’t find Kurt for the rest of the party and finally he had to assume that Kurt had gone home. Blaine had probably made him feel uncomfortable. He wished he’d at least had the chance to ask Kurt what he was doing over Christmas Break. Blaine, as usual, would be spending the week alone. His parents had been married on Christmas and so every year on their anniversary they took a trip together. Blaine used to at least have his sister for the holiday but now she was grown up and off with her own family so Blaine had the house to himself.

He was therefore relieved when school started again. He sought Kurt out right away intent on apologizing in case he really had made Kurt uncomfortable.

“It wasn’t you,” said Kurt. “I was just getting tired, that’s all.”

“You would tell me, wouldn’t you? If I did something wrong?” asked Blaine.

“Blaine, I always tell you when you’re wrong.” Blaine laughed.

“I mean it though,” he said. “I don’t want to ever mess up our friendship.” Kurt seemed startled by this, but then his face relaxed into the warmest smile that Blaine had ever seen on him.

“Me neither. I’ve never really been friends with anyone before.”

It was Blaine’s turn to be startled. “Never?”

Kurt shook his head. “I guess I’ve always been scared to get close to people.”

Blaine stared for a couple more seconds then said, “Can I treat you to coffee after Warbler rehearsal?”

Kurt considered Blaine for a moment then he nodded happily.

“Yes, thank you, that’d be perfect.”

As the New Year went on Kurt opened up more and more. They started getting coffee together regularly and Blaine even convinced Kurt to resume their study sessions. Blaine also started having dreams again about that cat with the eyes that shone like Kurt’s. Sometimes he wondered if he was going mad, especially when he’d wake up somewhere like the lounge, or the senior commons, or the library, and have no idea how he’d gotten there.
Overtime Blaine also started to feel more and more giddy around Kurt. Every little thing he did made Blaine blush and every little touch had Blaine’s stomach doing backflips.

It was late February, and they were once again spending Friday doing work together. Kurt had just told a joke about one of their teachers that had both of them bent over laughing to the point of tears. When Blaine could breathe again he looked up to see Kurt’s face flushed and his eyes shining and in that moment Blaine thought Kurt was the most beautiful person he’d ever laid eyes on.

Without thinking he stood and leaned over so that their noses were barely brushing. Kurt stilled and their eyes met for a second before Kurt closed the gap. It felt incredible and Blaine immediately stood so he could kiss Kurt deeper. Kurt’s hand went to his cheek so Blaine moved forward and began to wrap an arm around Kurt’s waist.

Then there was a small ‘pop’ and Kurt vanished.

Blaine’s eyes flew open and he clung to the table to keep himself from falling over now that he no longer had Kurt to lean into. He looked down and could hardly believe his eyes.

Sitting there in the seat where Kurt had been only a second before amongst a bundle of Kurt’s clothes was the brown tabby cat from his dreams. Blaine’s mouth dropped open and he stared down at the feline feeling a strong sense of deja vu. The cat turned its eyes, Kurt’s eyes, up at Blaine. All at once Blaine started to feel sleepy. His eyelids felt heavy and all he wanted to do was put his head down and sleep. Yet he couldn’t help but feel this had all happened before.

He shook his head, looking away from the cat and trying to clear his brain. He couldn’t sleep. He had to figure out what was going on. As soon as he looked away he started to feel better. But now the cat was meowing low and jumping up on the table as if trying to grab Blaine’s attention. He looked back and immediately the cloud of sleepiness fell upon him. He stumbled and clutched the back of his chair, once again looking away, trying his hardest to fight this feeling.

“Stop it!” he cried. “Stop it! Whatever it is you’re doing stop. Don’t make me sleep again, please!”

The cat mewled and tapped him with its paw but Blaine refused to look at it. Then out of the corner of his eye he saw the cat jump down from the table and start running out of the room. Blaine took off after it. They raced through the halls, and Blaine nearly lost the cat several times. Then finally, as the cat went to hide under a table there was another popping noise and suddenly Kurt was there where the cat had been, curled up and crying. He was also, Blaine couldn’t help but notice, completely naked.

“Kurt?”

“Go away!” cried Kurt. “Don’t look at me. Please go!”

“Kurt please don’t say that. It’s okay.” He knelt down next to the table trying not to look directly at Kurt.

“No, it’s not. I’m going to have to leave now. I don’t want to. I don’t want to leave,” he sobbed.

“But Kurt, why would you have to leave?”

“Because you know. No one can know. No one can know that I’m a freak.”

“Kurt, no, you’re not a freak.” Kurt turned to look at Blaine.

“Please,” he said. “Please let me wipe your memory. Please Blaine. I promise this won’t happen again. Please I don’t want to leave.” Blaine looked back into Kurt’s eyes as the pieces all started falling into place.

“Kurt, have you been wiping my memory this whole time?” Kurt nodded. “But why? How could you do that to me?”

“No one can know,” said Kurt.

“Kurt, I swear I will never tell a soul about this. I’ll keep it a secret. You won’t have to move. Only I will know.”

“Only you will know that I’m a freak.”

“Stop it Kurt!” said Blaine his voice stern now. “You’re not a freak. I don’t think that at all.”

“You just watched me change into a cat, Blaine.”

“So?” Kurt stopped crying. “That doesn’t make you a freak Kurt. Yeah, you’re different, but so what? You’re still the greatest friend I’ve ever had, and I really don’t want you to ever go away. I also don’t want you to have to hide things from me.” Kurt just looked back at Blaine sniffling for a moment before Blaine removed his blazer and held it out for him. Kurt crawled carefully from under the table and wrapped the blazer around his waist.

“Thank you,” he said. Blaine smiled and reached out to brush a tear away, but Kurt flinched and he stopped. “No, no, it’s alright. Just not used to people touching me. You can touch… just… don’t get too close.” Blaine finished whipping the tear away.

“Or else you’ll change?” he asked.

“Yes,” said Kurt sorrowfully. “It happens if someone hugs me or gets their body too close to mine. It’s been like this since I can remember.” Blaine looked up and he realized he could now see those cat ears on top of Kurt’s head as plain as day.

“Kurt, your ears.” Kurt looked surprised.

“You can see them?”

“I’ve seen them before, but whenever I’ve tried to get a second look they disappear! But now I see them clearly. Are they real?” Kurt raised a hand and rubbed one of his own ears.

“They are. So is the tail.” Blaine watched as Kurt swished his tail into view. “But normally people can’t see them. You must be extra perceptive.”

“Maybe I’m the freak,” joked Blaine.

“Oh shut up.”

“But, why?” asked Blaine. “Do you know why you’re like this?” Kurt sighed.

“You probably won’t believe me.”

“Kurt, I just saw you turn into a cat. I’m ready to believe you’re an alien.” They both laughed.

“No, I’m not an alien. The world is inhabited by things other than humans, plants, and animals. There’s also spirits. My mother was one of them. My mother was a cat spirit.”

“Was?”

“I never knew her. According to my dad, after their affair she left him and then a year later I showed up at the door.” Blaine listened intently as Kurt went on. “My dad tried to raise me normally, but of course because of my… defect, I had to pretty much stay away from everyone else. It was lonely, but I managed to do alright. Anytime anyone did discover my secret I found I could hypnotize them to sleep and wipe their memories. Things got worse, though, after I came out as gay. I started to get harassed and with the bullies coming so close to me it was becoming harder and harder not to accidently transform. So I transferred.”

“Kurt,” said Blaine seriously, bringing his hand up again to caress Kurt’s cheek. “I promise I’ll never tell a soul.”

“I believe you,” said Kurt, the corners of his mouth twitching up into that beautiful smile that Blaine loved so much.

“Can I kiss you?” he asked. Kurt’s ears twitched and Blaine was sure if they’d been human ears they would have been beat red.

“Yes,” he said. “Just be careful.” Blaine leaned forward and captured Kurt’s lips once more.

It was a relief to Blaine to finally know Kurt’s secret. Kurt seemed to feel the same way because all his walls seemed to come down around Blaine now. Kurt no longer made any attempts to avoid him and if Blaine ever did accidentally slip up and change Kurt they simply made sure no one had seen and waited for Kurt to change back. At these times Blaine wished Kurt would let him pet him, but Kurt seemed very opposed to this idea.

“I’m not your pet, Blaine,” he’d say.

“I know that!” Blaine would say back. “But you’re so adorable as a cat. Come on, it has to feel nice when I scratch behind your ears.” Kurt wouldn’t reply but Blaine knew that’s because Kurt didn’t want to admit that Blaine was right.

March was coming to a close when Kurt handed Blaine a slip of paper with what appeared to be Kurt’s home address on it.

“It’s my birthday this Sunday,” he said biting his lip and bouncing on his heels. “I’d love it if you came to dinner.”

“Kurt, of course I’ll come!” said Blaine excitedly.

“Fantastic!” said Kurt leaning over to give Blaine a kiss on the nose that warmed him to his toes. “Five o’clock?”

“I’ll be there,” Blaine said as Kurt grabbed his bag and headed home. Blaine looked back down at the address. He was so thrilled to be invited over to Kurt’s for the first time. He was terribly nervous of meeting Kurt’s dad, but he hoped he wouldn’t mess things up too much. First thing was first though, and that was to find a gift for Kurt.

On Sunday, Blaine spent a long time making sure his hair was styled just right and locked in place with plenty of gel. He stared at two bowties for ages trying to decide if pinstripe or plaid went better with his sweater. When he finally decided that there was nothing more to be done for his appearance he grabbed the box that held Kurt’s gift and headed to his house.

He thought it was quite beautiful and it was much bigger than Blaine’s house. He hopped up the front steps and took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell. To his surprise it was a very tall boy his age who answered.

“H-hi, I’m Blaine… I’m, is this Kurt’s house?” he asked nervously.

“Oh Blaine,” the boy said. “Right. Well hey, I’m Finn,” he extended his hand and Blaine took it. “Kurt’s my stepbrother. “ Blaine smiled up at him but then suddenly Finn was pulling him closer and whispering. “Dude, I’m going to tell you now, if you hurt him, or tell anyone about him you’re going to regret it.” Blaine was caught off guard by this sudden change of attitude, but fortunately he was rescued by Kurt coming down the hall with an apron hung around his neck.

“Finn! I told you not to harass him! You don’t have to protect me, you know. I’m not some damsel.” Kurt reached around Finn and grabbed Blaine’s wrist tugging him out of Finn’s grasp. Blaine allowed himself to be led down the hall as the smell of food reached his nostrils. When they turned Blaine found that they’d reached the kitchen. Kurt gave Blaine a squeeze on his wrist before turning to the two adults in the room.

“Dad, Carole, this is Blaine.” The woman who had been mixing a salad turned around with a big smile and the man who sat at the kitchen table studying a spreadsheet looked up as well, making Blaine’s heart beat just a little bit faster with nerves.

“You should feel lucky, Blaine,” said the man. “You’re the first kid Kurt’s ever brought over since he was little.”

“Dad!” said Kurt.

“I do feel lucky, Sir,” said Blaine honestly. “It’s very nice to meet you.”

“See, Hun, he’s a perfect gentleman, you had nothing to worry about,” said Carole. “Kurt, do you think you could check on the potatoes? You’re much better at knowing when they’re done.” Kurt gave Blaine one more squeeze before detaching himself and heading over to the oven. Blaine stood awkwardly in the door for a minute before he felt someone behind him and he turned to see it was Finn again.

“Finn, why don’t you and Blaine finish setting the table,” said Burt.

“Sure thing,” replied Finn pushing past Blaine to grab the plates and silverware.

“Just be nice to him, Finn,” warned Kurt.

“Dude, don’t worry.” Finn said before Blaine was ushered out of the room and into the dining room. The two of them split the settings and Blaine made sure to place them exactly the way Finn was. “So you know.” Blaine looked up at Finn.

“Er… yeah. I do,” he said as he straightened out one of the knives.

“I didn’t know until after we were brothers. I know it’s kind of weird at first, but…”

“I don’t think it’s weird at all,” said Blaine making Finn stop to look at him. “I mean, yeah it’s different, but it’s still Kurt so it could never be weird or strange or anything like that.” Finn smiled.

“You’re alright, man.” Blaine smiled too.

“Thanks.”

Kurt came in at that moment to survey the table. “Not bad. Good to see you didn’t break anything.” Finn rolled his eyes and left the room. Blaine took Kurt’s hand and held it against his lips with both of his.

“Happy Birthday,” he muttered into Kurt’s fingers.

“Thank you,” said Kurt his tail swishing back and forth and his eyes soft as he looked at Blaine. “And thanks for coming.”

“I wouldn’t have missed it for anything,” Blaine released his hand and reached into his pocket to pull out the box wrapped in silver. Kurt’s eyes lit up as he took the box.

“Can I open it?” he asked

“Go ahead,” Blaine said, laughing. Kurt pulled the wrapping off and opened the lid without any more encouragement. He stilled when he looked inside and saw a stone pendant imprinted with both a human footprint and a cat paw print. Blaine was quick to explain. “I just thought, you know you’ve spent you’re whole life hiding this part of you, and that’s okay, but I think sometimes you forget that you can still be proud of who you are. I thought this was a good representation of these two sides that both make up who you are. You… you don’t have to wear it or anything… I know it’s silly-“

“Blaine,” said Kurt looking up at him. “I love it.” He pulled the pendant out by its long black leather cord and reverently placed it around his neck.

In that moment Blaine longed to reply with ‘I love you, Kurt’, but he bit his tongue wondering if it was too early for that sort of declaration. When Kurt looked back up at him, though, it was hard to keep silent.

“Blaine, thank you so much.” Blaine shook his head.

“It really was nothing, Kurt,” he said. “I really do care about you.” Kurt opened his mouth to reply but then the rest of his family was coming into the room carrying the birthday dinner. They all took their seats, with both Blaine and Kurt grinning like fools.

From then on Blaine could always see the chord around Kurt’s neck and the knowledge that Kurt was wearing something that Blaine had given him under his shirt made Blaine feel incredible.

Blaine was soon introducing Kurt to his own parents, though the encounter wasn’t quite as pleasant as it had been for Blaine meeting Burt and Carole. Blaine’s parents were still uncomfortable with the fact that he was gay and seeing Blaine bring home a boyfriend was like pouring salt in their wounds. Kurt behaved beautifully to them though, being polite enough not to cause a fight, but keeping enough passive aggressiveness in his tone to make it obvious that he was disappointed in their lack of pride in their son.

At the end of the night as Blaine led Kurt to his car Kurt turned to him with a fierce look on his face.

“Blaine, your parents are idiots if they can’t tell how amazing you are.” Blaine smiled sadly.

“Thanks, Kurt,” he said.

“And no matter what, I’ll still love you, I promise.” Blaine felt his heart flutter at those words, and Kurt seemed to only just realize what he’d said.

“I love you, too,” Blaine said. He leaned forward carefully and pressed his lips to Kurt’s. Kurt kissed back earnestly. They were in love and Blaine felt so incredibly lucky.

A few weeks later, Kurt came over to Blaine’s house once more. Kurt seemed insistent on spending as much time at Blaine’s house as his own, probably in an attempt to make it clear to Blaine’s parents that he wasn’t someone that was just going to go away anytime soon.

They were in Blaine’s room getting reading done for one of their classes when Kurt tried to point something out in one of the chapters.

Unfortunately, Blaine’s hand slipped on the comforter and with a pop Kurt was once more a cat in his arms.

“Kurt, I’m so sorry!” he said. “I didn’t mean to do that, I swear.” Kurt rubbed his face against Blaine’s sweater as if to say he understood when suddenly the door opened and Blaine’s dad was poking his head inside.

“Blaine, I told you, if you’re going to have that Kurt over then you’re door is to stay- what’s that?” Blaine’s dad stared pointedly at Kurt who had frozen where he was on Blaine’s lap, his ears folded back.

“This is Ku-“ Blaine caught himself quickly, “er, I mean Kirby. This is Kirby. He’s Kurt’s cat.” Kurt looked up at Blaine with a look that said ‘are you kidding me’, before leaping out of his arms.

“Since when did friends bring their pets over to our house?” asked Blaine’s dad. “Where is Kurt anyway?”

“Kurt’s in the bathroom, Dad,” said Blaine starting to think a bit quicker now, “And Kurt’s family is having some rooms painted in their house today and they didn’t want Kirby to get in the way so I said he could bring him over. It’s not that big a deal.” Blaine’s dad came into the room a bit more looking down at Kurt and Blaine couldn’t tell who had the more judgmental glare.

“Well, never again after this,” he said. “I don’t want this house to start smelling like cat piss.” Kurt hissed at this making Blaine’s dad jump and Blaine had to hide a laugh. “Are you sure that thing doesn’t have rabies or something?”

“Of course it doesn’t have rabies, Dad!” said Blaine exasperated. Blaine’s dad went back to the door still looking at Kurt.

“Keep the door open,” he said before disappearing once more.

A minute later Kurt was back in human form.

“Kirby?” he asked sounding almost horrified by the name.

“Sorry,” said Blaine, “It was the first thing that popped into my head.”

“It’s a good thing I love you.”

“A very good thing,” Blaine agreed.

The year went on and Blaine often had to remind himself that he wasn’t dreaming. Kurt was really there, and they were really in love, and they were happy. It wasn’t long, though, before both of them began to yearn for more. Light kisses and holding hands were now becoming more teases than comforts. Several times they forgot themselves and tried desperately press close and hold the other in their arms, but every time Blaine would end up with Kurt in his cat form, curled on his lap, meowing sadly.

Summer came and after Kurt changed yet again Blaine tried to think of a way to make everything better. Kurt had just changed back into his human form and was getting up to pull his clothes back on. His pointed ears were flattened against his head betraying how stressed and upset his was and Blaine longed to see them returned to their normal perked up state.

“Kurt,” he said quietly. “Hold on, don’t put your clothes on.” Kurt turned to him a blush forming on his cheeks.

“W-why?” he asked.

“Come here,” Blaine begged. “Trust me?” Kurt held still for a moment and then came to sit by Blaine on his own bed, his arms covering himself as best as he could.

“It’s okay,” Blaine said. “You’re stunning, Kurt.” He reached out and brushed his fingertips along Kurt’s cheek making Kurt close his eyes. He continued to stroke Kurt’s cheek and then he moved his hand up to touch Kurt’s ear. It twitched but Kurt didn’t protest so Blaine started to rub it gently. Kurt began to relax, his ears slowly reverting to their normal position. Blaine trailed his fingers down along the side of Kurt’s face and then down to his neck.

Kurt’s breath caught in his throat and he tilted his head to allow
Blaine’s hand more access. Encouraged, Blaine kept running his fingers up and down along Kurt’s long, pale neck, and across his collarbone. Kurt let out a soft moan and Blaine felt his pants start to tighten. He continued touching, growing bolder as he glided his fingers over every inch of Kurt’s skin. Kurt was rolling his head and arching his body in response looking absolutely beautiful, and if Blaine wasn’t mistaken then Kurt was starting to actually purr. Somehow Blaine found it much hotter than he ever would have expected.

He touched everywhere along Kurt’s sides, stomach, and up to his chest where he gingerly circled Kurt’s nipples with his fingernails.

“Blaine,” Kurt mewled. He opened his eyes and they looked darker than Blaine had ever seen them before. Blaine started to palm himself through his pants as he continued to tease Kurt’s nipples making him say his name again and again.

Finally, Blaine brought his hand down to where Kurt’s cock stood hard and exposed. He wrapped his fingers around the head of it and began jerking him of slowly. Kurt threw his head back panting and thrusting up into Blaine’s fist.

“Blaine, oh god, please! Please more!” Blaine obliged, pumping Kurt’s cock harder and bringing his other hand up carefully to continue caressing Kurt’s sides and stomach. “Oh god, Blaine, I’m so close!”

“Let go Kurt. Come for me,” Blaine said, his voice low and husky. Kurt cried out and started to come as Blaine worked him through his orgasm. Kurt collapsed back onto the bed and Blaine rose to grab the tissues on Kurt’s desk.

“Blaine,” Kurt panted, “Blaine that was amazing, I never thought… just touching like that…”

“I know,” said Blaine happily now cleaning off his hand and Kurt’s stomach. Kurt sat up a bit and looked at Blaine.

“But you’re hard now,” he said, concerned. “You should let me do the same for you.” Blaine shook his head.

“No, it’s alright, really.” But Kurt wasn’t about to take no. He leapt off the bed then turned to face Blaine.

“Take your clothes off, and lay down.” He said. When Blaine looked confused Kurt added with a sly grin, “Trust me?” Blaine laughed at the echo of his own words and stood up to take his clothes off. Kurt had been naked in front of him so many times that it was almost natural by now, but Blaine had never been naked for Kurt. So when he finally removed his last scrap of covering he looked to Kurt for some kind of approval and found the boy he loved staring down at his body and licking his lips like Blaine was some tasty bird Kurt was about to pounce on. Blaine moved quickly back onto the bed and lay down, keeping his eyes on Kurt all the while. He moved his hand down and started to stroke his own cock as Kurt approached the bed.

Kurt propped his hand on the bed and then looked up at Blaine. “Put your hands above you head, I don’t want to accidently transform.” Blaine did as he was told bringing his hands up and holding them above his head as Kurt bent down making sure not make any contact with Blaine body except for the tip of his nose against Blaine’s ridged cock. Blaine moaned and gripped the pillow behind his head as Kurt stuck out his tongue and began to give his cock tiny kitten licks.

Blaine had to fight to keep still as Kurt continued lapping up and down his shaft and letting out soft noises of pleasure. The fact that Kurt seemed to be enjoying getting Blaine off drove him crazy. Kurt continued this torture, swirling his tongue around the very tip and then ducking down to suck one of Blaine’s balls into his mouth before Blaine finally came in hot spurts over his stomach. Kurt purred and moved up to gingerly lick away the mess and Blaine groaned at the sight.

“Kurt, you’re incredible,” said Blaine. Kurt sat up licking his lips and looked down his eyes suddenly sad.

“It’s just too bad we can’t cuddle now,” Blaine frowned but then scooted over to give Kurt room on the bed.

“Come here,” he said. Kurt quietly lay beside him and they both turned to their sides so they could look at one another. Blaine took Kurt’s hands and held them tightly in his own. Kurt held back just as tightly, reveling in this small amount of contact they were allowed. It was hardly enough. They both longed for so much more. But it was what they had, and that made it special.

“Maybe I’m cursed,” said Kurt about a month later as the two of them lay stretched out on the floor once again in Blaine’s bedroom, only their fingertips touching above their heads.

“Kurt, don’t say that,” said Blaine.

“I’m serious. I’ve thought that so many times. Maybe this is a curse and there’s some way to break it.” Blaine turned his head to look over at Kurt.

“Like a fairytale?” he asked.

“Why not?” said Kurt, rolling onto his stomach and propping his chin on his hands. “I’m basically a fairytale character.” Blaine went up on his elbows as well.

“Yes, well, in those stories isn’t a curse normally broken by a kiss?” As if to prove his point Blaine leaned forward and pecked Kurt on the lips. Kurt lowered his eyes.

“True love’s kiss,” he said so quietly that Blaine barely heard him.

“Kurt? Do you…?” was Kurt really saying what Blaine thought he was saying? Kurt looked up and when he saw the look in his eyes he quickly reached out for Blaine’s hand.

“Blaine! No, I love you! I really do. That’s not it at all.” Blaine nodded his heart slowly recovering from his moment of panic. “No, I just was thinking, I guess love really isn’t that powerful.” Blaine crawled closer to Kurt and rested their foreheads together.

“Love is about honoring someone the way they are, not changing them,” he said.

Months passed and they continued to make the best of what they had. Blaine was never too bothered. He was the happiest he’d ever been his whole life and he tried to make Kurt just as happy. Every once and while Kurt would break down and start telling Blaine that he was too good for Kurt and that he should leave him to enjoy a life with someone who was normal, but Blaine always insisted that Kurt was perfect just the way he was and that Blaine wouldn’t trade him for anyone.

Before they knew it, it was Christmas again.

“What does your family normally do for Christmas,” asked Kurt as they helped the Warblers decorate the Senior Commons for the Holiday Party. Blaine hesitated to answer, but he knew he had to be honest.

“Well, it’s my parent’s anniversary… so they go on vacation. So I kind of have the house to myself.” Kurt looked at Blaine in shock.

“Your own parents don’t spend Christmas with you?” Blaine kept his eyes on the floor and just shrugged not sure how to explain the way his family worked, or didn’t work to be more exact. “Blaine, I’m so sorry.”

“I’m used to it,” he said. “It’s all I’ve ever known so it doesn’t really bother me anymore.”

“Of course it bothers you!” said Kurt now sounding livid. “Blaine, I want you to come to my house for Christmas.”

“No, Kurt, I’m not about to intrude on your family just because-“

“You’re coming Blaine.”

Blaine realized it was futile to argue.

So Christmas morning found Blaine driving to Kurt’s house and knocking on his front door. This time it was Burt who answered. “Hey there Blaine! We’re just about to have Kurt’s famous French toast.” Blaine smiled and followed Burt inside. They went straight into the dining room where everyone was already sitting down.

The remaining place setting had four wrapped boxes sitting on top of it. Blaine stared and Burt clapped him on the shoulder.

“You’ve been so good to Kurt this year, Blaine, so we wanted to thank you,” he said.

“Merry Christmas, Blaine,” said Kurt hopping up and handing Blaine the first box.

“You didn’t have to-” Blaine started.

“Dude, it’s Christmas, just accept the presents,” said Finn. Everyone laughed and Blaine started to unwrap the box. Inside was a pendant similar to the one Blaine had given to Kurt, but instead of footprints there were two hearts engraved in the middle.

“I hope I don’t have to tell you what the engraving stands for,” said Kurt. Blaine beamed up at him.

“Kurt, this is perfect. Thank you!”

Blaine proceeded to open the rest of his gifts which included a couple of gorgeous cardigans and a brand new watch. Blaine was beside himself with gratitude and had to struggle to keep himself from tearing up in front of Kurt’s entire family.

After breakfast, Blaine sat with Kurt on the floor of the living room and gave him his own gift (a new brand of skin moisturizer that Kurt had been raving about for weeks), when Blaine looked up and saw what was above their heads.

“Mistletoe,” said Kurt. Blaine looked back down and before he knew it Kurt’s lips were pressed against his.

A year past. Kurt graduated and went off to college separating the two of them for the first time since Blaine first discovered Kurt’s secret. It was torture for the both of them. However much they tried to stay sane with Skype calls and with other interests they couldn’t help but feel something was missing. By the time Kurt’s Christmas break arrived Blaine had made a decision.

Blaine was at Kurt’s house waiting for Burt to arrive with Kurt and when he did both of them ran for each other. Kurt fell into Blaine’s arms and with a pop became a cat. Neither of them cared. Blaine still held Kurt close and Kurt nuzzled against Blaine’s neck just relieved to be together again.

On Christmas Eve Blaine invited Kurt to his house, which of course was empty. They made dinner together chatting happily and catching up. All the while Blaine kept placing his hand over his pocket and hoping that he had the right instinct.

After dinner he brought Kurt into his living room and they both sat in front of the tree together. Blaine reached out and began to trace his fingers across Kurt’s skin making him close his eyes and moan softly. When Blaine pulled his hand away Kurt opened his eyes again and looked at Blaine with a warm expression that made him melt.

“I missed you so much, Kurt,” he said.

“I missed you too, Blaine.”

“Kurt,” Blaine sat up and his eyes went to the floor not quite having the courage to meet those bright blue green eyes while he said his piece. “I’ve never met anyone like you before. Kurt, when you’re gone, it’s like a piece of myself is missing. I love you so much. Every little thing you do just grabs me and makes me love you more and more. Kurt, we’re so young. I know. But I know I never want to lose you. I can’t envision my life going on without you being in it.”

Blaine fumbled inside his pocket and he heard Kurt gasp as he pulled out a tiny velvet box. Blaine finally looked up at Kurt and tried to read his expression which seemed to be a mixture of disbelief and delight. Blaine latched onto the delight and pushed on. He opened the box and showed Kurt the simple silver band inside. “Kurt, we don’t have to rush things. I want us to finish college first. Figure out what we’re doing with our lives. But when that’s all taken care of, I want to marry you Kurt. Will you?”
There were tears in Kurt’s eyes and for once in his life he seemed quite speechless. He looked at Blaine for a long moment in which Blaine was sure his heart stopped beating.

“But Blaine. What if I’m always like this? What if you’ll never be able to hold me? What if you always have to keep this secret?”

“I don’t care!” And now tears were stinging Blaine’s eyes. “It doesn’t matter to me. It’s never mattered to me. I love you Kurt. Will you marry me?”

“Yes!” Kurt exclaimed surging forward to press his lips against Blaine’s. There was such force behind it that they toppled over and Kurt landed on top of Blaine.

Blaine sadly listened for the familiar popping noise and the feel of fur beneath his fingers.

But nothing happened.

Kurt and Blaine stared at each other Kurt still on top of Blaine, their bodies pressed together and yet Kurt was not changing. He still had his cat ears and tail but the rest of his body was completely human. All at once they both started to cry. Blaine wrapped his arms tight around Kurt and Kurt did the same. They clutched each other so close they could hardly breathe. Kurt sobbed the hardest never having felt before what it was like to be this close to someone as a human being. Blaine just held him, letting him cry and crying too as he rubbed Kurt’s back and peppered kisses all over his face.

“How?” choked out Blaine finally as they continued to hold each other.

“I don’t know,” cried Kurt. “I have no idea. I don’t care. Blaine, this feels so nice. I’ve wanted this for so long.” Blaine just smiled a broad goofy grin and kissed Kurt hard. Kurt kissed back with all his might and in seconds the mood had changed drastically. Blaine rolled on top of Kurt and without thinking started to grind down against him, loving the feel of their bodies moving together. Kurt broke the kiss and moaned as Blaine started sucking on his neck, tasting the skin there for the first time. Kurt’s hands wandered down and gripped Blaine’s ass making him rut down harder and making them both gasp and moan.

“Blaine,” breathed Kurt. “Blaine I want you so bad. I’ve wanted you for ages.” Blaine kissed him in reply. He wanted Kurt too. There was nothing he wanted more at this moment.

They started to undress each other, pulling off sweaters, pants, undershirts, and underwear as fast as they could manage before pressing themselves together once again. Every touch was like an explosion. They were so inexperienced and unsure of what exactly to do but it didn’t seem to matter because whatever they did was something new and exciting and they knew they had their entire lives to get it right.

Blaine moved down Kurt’s body kissing all over his ribs and stomach until he reached Kurt’s flush cock which he immediately took into his mouth. Kurt mewled loudly and bucked up into Blaine’s mouth. Blaine gagged for a moment but quickly recovered and began to suck Kurt in earnest. Kurt’s fingers slid into Blaine’s hair, tugging it and trying to keep his hips steady as Blaine bobbed up and down on his cock.

“Blaine,” Kurt said between shallow breaths. “Blaine, please, I want you inside of me.” Blaine pulled off of Kurt.

“I don’t have any lubrication,” he said, not willing to do anything that would hurt Kurt in anyway.

“You know it’s not just my ears and tail that are cat-like,” said Kurt. “Cats have self-lubricated assholes.” Blaine trailed a finger down between Kurt’s legs which Kurt spread for him. Sure enough when Blaine circled Kurt’s hole with his finger he could already feel how wet it was. Kurt moaned at the contact and then pulled away from Blaine and rolled onto his stomach and pushed his ass into the air, his tail up high, presenting himself for Blaine just like a cat in heat. Blaine was so hard now he could barely stand it.

“Please Blaine!” pleaded Kurt. Blaine rubbed Kurt’s hole again making Kurt purr and arch his back even more. Then he gently inserted a finger.
“Oh Blaine!” cried Kurt. “Fuck that feels so good.” Blaine pumped his finger in and out before adding a second one. Blaine tried to be gentle but Kurt was starting to get impatient pushing back against Blaine and basically fucking himself on Blaine’s fingers. “Blaine, please, I need you right now!”

Blaine couldn’t resist any longer. He got up on his knees and draped himself over Kurt’s back lining himself up with Kurt’s stretched hole. He kissed Kurt’s shoulder before starting to sink himself inside. Kurt moaned and pushed back once again taking control. Blaine groaned and snapped his hips forward the rest of the way burying himself deep inside.

“I love you, Kurt.” He said pressing more kisses to Kurt’s shoulder.

“I love you, Blaine,” Kurt replied. “Please make love to me now. Please! I want to feel you.” Blaine did what he was told, thrusting into Kurt’s tight heat and making the cat boy yowl and scream his name.

“More!” he begged. “Please, Blaine!” Blaine moved harder and faster fucking into Kurt and feeling the pleasure shoot through his body making the pit of his stomach tighten more and more just waiting for release.
Blaine reached around and started to pump Kurt’s cock in time with his thrusts making Kurt little more than an incoherent mess until finally Kurt was coming hard. Blaine wrapped his arms around Kurt and pulled the both of them down onto their sides as Kurt’s orgasm subsided. He was still deep inside of Kurt and he continued to thrust shallowly into him as he covered Kurt with kisses and caressed his chest and stomach. Kurt lay blissfully allowing Blaine to love him until Blaine was coming too.
Blaine pulled out gently and Kurt turned so they could wrap around each other once more.

“Blaine,” said Kurt.

“Hm?”

“You still haven’t put the ring on me.” Blaine realized he was right and looked around for the box. He found it lying beside them and fortunately the ring had remained inside. He pulled it out and locked eyes with Kurt as he slipped the band onto Kurt’s finger.

Their bodies intertwined once more and they spent hours laying like that, just kissing and touching, and wanting nothing but to hold each other for the rest of their lives.
