Okay.. (spoilers in this post, I don't know how to do that linky thing)

Okay.

That's my opinion. Not that it was an okay episode, I'm not sure how I would rate the quality of the episode yet, but as far as how the scenario turned out and what happened, I'm okay with it. Sure, it's a little 'Days of Our Bones', but alas, Season 7, episode 1 of JAG began with Harm in a state of amnesia. Couldn't remember anything. First person he remembered was his partner (the other half of my then-ship). This, I can deal with.

What I couldn't have dealt with was the writers suddenly throwing them together without any prelude in THIS reality. Their relationship is too complex and beautiful for it to happen like that. This, this is okay. It will be worked out. I DO have confidence in the writers' ability to bring us more of the Bones we love (whereas I was pretty much ready to give up if they'd thrown them together in this reality in this episode) although I'm a little miffed by the repeated assertion that it wasn't a dream or a hallucination, whoever posted on the spoiler LJ that it was a story seems to have been right, but I would tend to lump 'story' in with those other alternate reality possibilities. Seems like some deception, but in this case I'm not too upset - spoilers are ALWAYS deceptive, perhaps this time they bordered on equivocal but it seems to have turned out for the best.

I have a theory that many good series' go through a 'Days of our ________' phase. With JAG (my favorite example) it started with Mic Brumby, then Clayton Webb and that whole mess of relationships that happened between seasons 5 and 9. For the period it was quite disappointing. But I still got my happy ending, and I was satisfied with it. It was very fitting to the characters' personalities and development.

This season of Bones had some hints of soap opera in it as well - I want a baby, Bones dating Jared, the whole Angela/Hodgins fiasco, Daisy possibly cheating on Sweets, and of course alternate reality amnesia-ville. But Bones isn't as far gone as JAG was. I have yet to see a clip show of two characters reminiscing together before kissing at one of their engagement parties to someone else (Lifeline, anyone? Kiss = good. Plot = bad.)

Therefore, I have faith. My shred of hope remains. We'll see what next season brings and maybe we'll have some more of our old Bones back. Maybe the producers will learn from the mistakes (and near disasters) of shows that went before them and bounce back faster... and when (because it is a when, not an if) Booth and Brennan finally get together, it will be done right.
