Today there are questions on
thefridayfive so I'll get those out of the way first (under the cut for reminiscing)
1. What were you doing in 2001? 2011?
In 2001 I had two small boys aged 10 and 8 and two jobs. I can't remember much else about that year actually LOL!
In 2011 I had one boy at university and one retaking his exams at school due to poor health. Work was awful and I was trying to find somewhere else to work, we lost our elderly cat and acquired three new kittens who are still with us.
2. What's something you've kept going for over a decade?
I've stayed married to the same man does that count LOL!
3. What's an anniversary you want to mark down and celebrate?
Next year is our 40th wedding anniversary which I'm determined to celebrate in style.
4. What would your past self think of your present self?
They would be jealous at how much fitter and thinner I am I would hope as I've been working hard at improving my general health.
5. What was the first online communality that you loved?
I think that would be a Buffy fandom community called Cold Dead Seed. I think I came through that to Lj.
Today's forecast: 22C/72F here and 23C/73.5F in central London where we have been for most of the day. It was lovely - gorgeous blue skies - gratuitous photo of St Paul's cathedral and the Thames today :)
We went to London to see the The Making of Rodin at the Tate Modern. Loads of plaster casts and working models for many of the most well known Rodin sculptures collected together for the first time in the UK. Very interesting and fascinating to see how different versions led to the final sculptures. Under the cut for some photos of the many, many plaster casts and models:
Mr Cee and me..... all masked up as we were asked to do that by the gallery. Almost everyone had masks on which was good and it was quite quiet.
Famous stuff!!
Not so well known were loads of models of the face of the actor and dancer Ohta Hisa who performed under the name Hanako. They were very interesting.
More about her....
The
Burghers of Calais - the plaster figures who were then cast in bronze. They were modelled in the nude at first, then clothing and material covered in plaster were draped over the figures to show their structure underneath....
I adore how Rodin models hands
This one is called 'Farewell' - gorgeous hands.....
Rodin bought ancient artifacts and incorporated in his work - which of course would be frowned upon today as essentially he's destroyed them such as this Merovingian Dynasty (5th-8th Century) vase. Ooops!
After we'd seen the exhibition we walked down by the Thames back to The Strand which was lovely in the sunshine. We did a little bit of shopping and then went for an afternoon tea in the newly refurbished Clermont Hotel next to Charing Cross station (formerly the Charing Cross Hotel, and then the Amba Hotel). It was very nice and there was free flowing champagne which we were not aware was part of the coupon deal we had bought. *hic*
We got home at 3pm having had a few glasses of bubbly and many lovely sandwiches and cakes (photo under the cut)
Now we are relaxing and that's it for Friday. Tomorrow we're on our holidays, so depending on wifi strength I may be MIA for a bit.....
Today's question: 24. Have you ever bought something recommended by an ad on social media before?
No - I do a lot of research before I buy stuff :)
