Wet.....

Jun 11, 2019 19:33

Yesterday we had 10.5cm of rain (just over 4") in one day. This is more that we should have in the whole of June in my bit of the UK. The railway station underpass between the platforms has been closed as it is flooded (there's a bridge to get to the platforms so it's OK) and part of the railway shut down last night and has been causing problems this morning, so Mr Cee worked at home. Generally it's been a bit chaotic, with various roads flooded as the drains couldn't cope, but it's been dry for most of the day .... until now.... and the next few days there will be more rain, but hopefully not quite as bad as yesterday.

Today I've been in the glass studio making a present for a friend whose birthday is this week. I've not made one of these before - it's a flower stake for the garden, and it was fairly quick and easy to make and I hope she likes it. I love the colour of this glass - red with orange rippled through it.

fionnabhar has posted a friending meme thingy which is quite fun: "Those who wish to participate will say so in the comments, and I will give them three topics, or spheres of interests, which I think they are not interested in, and we'll see what they come up with to surprise us."

She gave me:

Time travel
I dunno if I'd want to actually do it because of all the safety issues and horrible diseases and lack of decent food in the past.... however - I rather fancy the idea of a time travel window like they had in Fringe where you could glance into the past and see what happened. I think there should be limits on what you are allowed to watch though. Obviously big religious milestones would be out of bounds, and I'm sure there would be much debate on what (when?) you could observe. Also - see the last question.
Muffins
Yes I'm in favour of muffins. I like making them as you can go from ingredients to warm muffins in about 30 minutes. I've even been known to wait for them to cool down before I eat them  ;)
Historical fiction
Hmmm - this one depends on the plot of the book. I don't really like romantic fiction which is often set in the past, but give me an adventure story or a detective story (e.g. Sherlock Holmes) and I'm in. I like the Chronicles of St Mary's books by Jodi Taylor as they are a quirky 'take' on time travel and history and stuff.
If you want to join in, let me know in comments and I'll pick three random topics for you to answer in your own journal.

Meanwhile, back at the 365 meme the question for today is: What's your favourite cover song? I like Mad World by Gary Jules which was originally sung by Tears for Fears.
