The BBC version of "The 39 Steps" was on television last night. Nothing like the novel (but then none of the film/TV adaptations have resembled it in the slightest), but at last they did actually set it in the correct era. It was nice to see some period costumes, but once again it reminds me how little men's fashions have changed, whereas women's fashions have so radically altered. Rupert Penry-Jones as Richard Hannay was very pretty (and took his shirt off just the right amount of times). A 're-imagining' of the novel I suppose.
Today thanks to Virgin's 'catch up TV' I watched a documentary about Thunderbirds which was on BBC4 yesterday (you can find it online
HERE) with lots of interviews with Gerry Anderson and the people who worked on the various Anderson shows. The clips reminded me how brilliant the special effects were, even if the puppets couldn't walk around and they had to invent new ways of getting them from place to place (hence the invention of the hover-cycle). It was nice to see Nick Parkes tribute to the Thunderbird 2 sequence again from 'A Close Shave'.
Today I have some marking to do (boo!) and some reports to write which will be difficult as Mr Cee has the week off, and the boys are home from school and I'll get lured into watching TV and talking to people. I need to be anti-social to do marking... *sighs*
First I'll just go and catch up with 'Burn Notice' with the eldest son.. *iz easily distracted*
