Today was very rainy, and I got very wet walking to my local station this morning, but fortunately, the journey from then on was OK and it wasn't raining as hard in central London. I was dry by the time I got to Tate Britain for their Sargent and Fashion exhibition ( Read more... )

This is really an exhibition I'd love to see. I'm very much a Sargent fan, and these look wonderful. I could spend a couple of days just wandering amongst the paintings.

The paintings were very impressive - and so large! I really enjoyed it.

Beautiful paintings! It's interesting to hear how he used fabric to enhance the portraits.

I liked seeing the sailor style outfit of the boy in the first painting. I have a picture of my dad wearing a similar outfit when he was a young boy.

My favorites are Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose and Lady Agnew of Lachnaw.

It was quite amazing to think that some of the fabric in those paintings is from J S Sargent's mind!

I thought that one with the boy and his mother was lovely. Lots of emotion on their faces.

Totally agree with your favourites.

Looks like a very interesting exhibition! I can't imagine any part of a beetle being sewn onto a dress, but it does look very pretty if you don't know what it is hahah. :)

It was fascinating, and much larger than I thought it was going to be! Apparently, it wasn't that unusual to use the wings of beetles as decoration!

These are lovely. I am looking forward to revisiting this post later today and savoring the biggified images at leisure.

I did! Very soothing to my frazzled soul. All that satin and velvet.
