A final National Trust outing..

Today the weather has been a little less sunny, but a bit warmer than yesterday (20C/68F). We got up later than usual, and at around 10am we set off to go and visit Scotney Castle, about a 45-minute drive from our house ( Read more... )

Being easily distractible and uncultured, I noticed someone in one of the early pics doing a clothed moon to the rest of the room, and are those pine cones on the beds or did the dogs get in and leave a naughty message. And interesting portrait foregrounding the woman who probably had to make lunch for the celebrity surrounded by his adoring fans and not best pleased about it. Silliness aside, it is interesting that JC in his glory is backgrounded, way, way back. Must look up the history of the image.

LOL! That's Mr Cee bending over a display on a table! I hadn't noticed that :D

Pine cones (or sometimes dried thistles) are placed on items in the big open manor houses/castles to indicate that you must not sit on the beds or seats etc. Everyone understands that if there's a sharp thing on something you don't sit on it.

Yes, that is an interesting way of doing a spiritual painting and apparently, that artist made quite a feature of things in the foreground rather than concentrating on the spiritual scene in the background.

That's quite the place for being so relatively modern!
The photo with you and Mr. Cee in the mirror is great! THanks for pointing that out.
:D
I'm sorry you won't be renewing your membership. Has the cost gone up radically? I've loved visiting these places via your posts.

It was the fashion to emulate the Tudors at the time - there are quite a few places with similar decorations (or in some cases redecorations) to make somewhere look like it has more history than it actually does. In fact, a lot of the panels etc. came from the Old Castle, so to be fair, I suppose they are original to the site ( ... )

That looks like a really nice place to visit. I always love wandering round these old properties and wondering what my life would have been like if I'd lived there back in the day!

It’s certainly an interesting place and well worth a visit. Some of it looked really comfortable to live in.
