Another dreary day and we had torrential rain for most of last night. I'm not complaining - I'd much rather have a day of 22C/72F than the sweltering temperatures elsewhere.
The Qigong lesson last night was good, but it was incredibly humid which I hate, so it was tiring. We did the same sequence we learned last week. I'm hoping that he will teach some different things each week as it's not going to be that interesting if we keep repeating the same thing.
Today I thought I'd post about an exhibition we saw at Mottisfont House while we were away last weekend. The exhibition covered the artwork from Janet Ahlberg who illustrated the children's books her husband Allan wrote. Our boys were the age when these books were around and we had many of them, but they are still incredibly popular today and seeing the original artwork was a real treat.
A few examples of the illustrations under the cut (which are really worth clicking to get the larger versions and zooming in...
A whole display of many of the different books the couple produced. They had met in 1960 at a technical college and were married in 1969. Allan started out as a Primary school teacher and Janet was a freelance illustrator. This all changed when Janet asked Allan to write a children's storybook for her to illustrate and from 1976 that's what they spent the next 50 years doing until Janet died in 1994. Allan is still writing books with other illustrators.
The little illustrations are so cute!
And very detailed
This one is from The Jolly Postman (or other people's letters) book - one with a letter (or a game or a little book) to be discovered in each section. The illustration at the top is the arrival of the postman, then him sitting with the Big Bad Wolf as he reads the letter from the three little pigs' solicitor...
The Jolly Christmas Postman
Mrs Wobble the Waitress (you can guess the plot!)
It was lovely to revisit illustrations I remember from when our two huge grown children were small children.
Today I have little planned - Mr Cee is working in his office, Youngest Cee came home last night after his short break with GF(P) (who will be coming over on Friday for the weekend) and is working in the front living room. All the cats are asleep - it's very peaceful *g*. Later Mr Cee and I are off to our Thursday evening Pilates mat class.
Today's question is: 27 - Refreshment Day: What is your go-to refreshment on hot summer days? Is this something you enjoy year-round, or that you mainly drink in the summer? Oh, that's an easy one - water. I only really find cold (still) water slakes my thirst.
