A revisited exhibition

Today's forecast is 23C/74F, cloudy in my area, but really sunny in London where I headed off to this morning. I met a friend at Charing Cross and we walked over to the National Gallery to see the Saint Francis of Assisi exhibition. You may remember that I'd been to see it back in May, but my friend hand't seen it and was interested (and I thought ( Read more... )

I’ll have to go back to your earlier St Francis exhibition post. We have a St Francis treasure in our museum that I thought you might like to see:

There are a lot of traffic noises in the distance, and the hum of nearby central air units (including our own) , and the drone of Roy’s online fitness video downstairs.

Thank you for your link - the theme of the receiving of the stigmata was one that was throughout the exhibition and lots of variations! I've added the link to my previous post to this one, but here it is if you are interested in some of the other paintings: https://kazzy-cee.livejournal.com/1016605.html

Thanks - I actually went to your May archives to check. I was curious to see if our Van Eyck had traveled to that show, but it's possible that the donor's bequest may prohibit that.

It definitely wasn’t there which is a shame as it would have been good to have a Dutch artist in the exhibition.

That is an exhibition I would have loved to see. The Zurbarán is wonderful but the Josefa de Obidos is one of my favourites. She was born in Seville but spent most of her life in Portugal as her father was Portuguese. She has some really lovely work and her children's faces can be just charming.
I'm also *very* sceptical about relics in general...and I was brought up a strict Polish Catholic (though have abandoned practicing religion. Still, it is a good background for all the religious art LOL).

The only sound I hear right now is my keyboard and the vague hum of the aircon.

The exhibition was well worth a second look and I really enjoyed visiting with someone who knew more about St Francis than I did. Josefa de Óbidos's work was lovely. I'd like to see more.

It was a really good exhibition - I am very spoiled as I live close enough to London to visit all the major museums and as I'm old I get free travel on the railway, the underground trains and buses so I'm up there regularly :)
