Friday five

I missed this yesterday, so I'm catching up.  I have no idea what we're up to today so I may post again later ...

1. Besides work, what takes up the biggest portion of your day?
As I don't work anymore most of my day is spent going to exercise classes (I have a scheduled class four days a week), household chores (laundry, cleaning) and cooking or preparing food.

2. If you could do anything as a career, what would it be?
I've had many careers - most of them have focused on me administering people/paperwork and teaching people stuff as those are my strengths. I have thought about teaching Pilates, but it would mean working evenings and I've "been there, done that and got the T-shirt" and I wouldn't want to not spend time with Mr Cee in the evenings (although I suppose he could come to the classes LOL!).

3. Do you feel too much emphasis is placed on having a career?
I don't think people necessarily have a career that takes them all the way through their lives any more. It used to be that you'd have one job in one sector and retire after 40 years, now I think people tend to have a life of different jobs to fit in with their lifestyle. I also don't think that these days you can guarantee where you start working will be around in 10 years' time - so many businesses just don't survive or have to merge with others to keep going.

4. If you have a college/university degree, are you working in your field?
I don't have a degree - when I started working in the 1970s you didn't need one. These days I think employers often ask for graduates just to keep the number of applicants down and the roles don't necessarily need a graduate-level employee.

5. What would be the most boring job to have and why?
We often watch those TV programmes that show how things are made in factories and often the most mundane part of the process is still down to humans doing that bit which is usually very repetitive and has very little skill - I would find it incredibly boring.
