That's right, it's a Compare-and-Contrast assignment from Revolve! I want your essay in my comments section by Friday.

Q: If God made pot, why can't I smoke it?

A: The Bible says that everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial. God made pot, and some people say that's a reason to smoke it. The trouble with pot is this: 1 ( Read more... )

My favorite part of Revolve! is that the questions for Blab are clearly made up by editors trying to seem like they are teens. Real teens, even Christian ones, don't think about things like this. It's propaganda WITHIN propaganda. I love it!

Anyways, you knew I couldn't resist responding to this set!

The first question brings us back to the old schoolyard chant, "God made dirt so dirt don’t hurt." Besides being grammatically horrifying, it was really just a justification for eating something that had fallen on the floor, so I never really put much thought into it.

This question probably would have been better if it was about dirt rather than pot. Then the first response about pot's legality would have been void, as dirt is legal (though not FDA approved). However, it's not really always cut and dry about whether or not pot is illegal or not. What if I am a Christian teen living in Amsterdam? Was the Bible only written for Americans?

I guess then I'd have to refer to responses two and three. It controls you. I love that there is no further discussion or explanation. Bam. Done. Topic over. However, I think there is quite a bit of debate over this as well. If they were talking about, I dunno, heroin, I probably would agree with them there. You never meet a recreational heroin user, but pot? How many suburban dads out there smoke pot on the weekends from time to time, but still manage to maintain a normal existence? Probably a ton, but I guess we'll get to this kind of guy in the next question.

Response number three is probably the best response they have going for them, but for some reason they made that the last reason. However, smoking pot doesn't kill brain cells. This is probably based on the urban myth that drinking kills brain cells, which it also doesn't. Still smoking anything is bad for your health, so this argument I guess is valid? Well high-fructose corn syrup is very bad for your health, but it's in everything (and it's FDA approved). So what am I supposed to do there? Sigh. I guess I'll go smoke some poison ivy, since I suddenly have an overwhelming urge to smoke that particular creation of God.

Ah, wonderful question two! This one is important to me as I, much like Suzy Christian USA's dad, drink 3 to 4 beers every night. So okay, drinking alcohol is not a sin since Jesus brought some wine to a party. Whew, dodged a bullet there, or did I? Apparently getting drunk is a different story. I am no theologian, but I don't remember one of those 10 Commandments being "Thou shall not do a keg stand." I guess I really don't understand this answer.

Now let's bring it back to the answers brought up in the marijuana question. I'm still not sure how marijuana controls you, but I'm a little clearer on how alcohol controls you; I guess. Yet, they didn't use this here. You'd think they would have. Also, the third response would have been fantastic here too. Alcohol is clearly bad for you, er wait, unless you are talking about one glass of red wine a day, then it's good for you. Maybe the answers aren't clear here either. Oh Bible, why didn't you just tell us how to feel about things like this!?!

I went over my 150 words. Sorry.
