My friends, I apologize, for this is neither silly nor light-hearted. It certainly belongs on A CiviL Union and not here, but, well, almost no one actually reads that and a fair number read this one. At any rate, I'm requesting that you call your Senators. I called both of mine and it took all of 3 minutes - for the Washington residents I'll cut

But since the Palestinians decided to elect Hamas to government, I have even more contempt for them. I have a great appreciation for the difficult position the Israeli government is in. I would have a greater appreciation for the position the Palestinian government is in were it not for the fact that the Palestinian government is, in fact, a terrorist organization whose tactics frequently involve blowing civilians up. An offense which is in my mind is much more severe than turning off their power.
In other words. The Palestinians elected a terrorist organization to represent them, they are now dealing with the fallout of that. I hope that the suffering to innocents is minimal, but after the most recent Palestinian elections, I really wonder who the innocents are.

Yes, the Palestinian people have elected a "terrorist government." But does that alone condone uncivilized, unjust actions against innocent people?? Does that fact alone condone that? I believe not. We must acknowledge the status of the Palestinian government, but also recognize and survey the situation. Many of these 500,000 Palestinians already live a life where daily clean water is not always a regularity, where electicity is not always a promise, let alone living a harsh life under an occupation. We must open our eyes, especially being the dominant world power. These are HUMAN BEINGS, and we must recognize them of that, no matter how they vote.

"...after the most recent Palestinian elections, I really wonder who the innocents are.I fear this logic commits a grave error. It looks at the military actions of a government (and in this case it's even more complicated than that) and says that those who put the government in power cease to be innocent and thus may, to some degree, also be targeted. Is that not the same misugided logic used by many militants, that the State of Israel has displaced and killed numerous civilians (unintentionally or otherwise) and that since the government was elected by civilians, some attacks on the people are justified ( ... )
