I'm not going to lie, being an orientation leader is a pretty sweet deal. For example, as an orientation leader, one gets to enjoy free food as well as to bear witness to the great failings of Western Civilization. I write today on the latter point.
In our society there are obvious failings - a propensity towards violence, an inexplicable tendency to sacrifice liberty, an inability to accept those different from ourselves, etc - but there is a silent killer out there. When individuals come together in groups they will INVARIABLY leave a seat inbetween themsevles and the person next to them, EVEN AS PEOPLE MUST STAND IN THE AISLES! I'm not sure whether to blame the Grecos or the Romans, the Judeos or the Christians, but somewhere along the line something went terribly, terribly wrong.
Stephen Hawking recently
commented that if humanity is to have any hope of surviving itself, we must immediately colonize the moon and Mars. Indeed, I am convinced that were the end of the Earth IN PROGRESS and one rocket was left to save the human race, it would leave with empty seats in the middle because people refuse to sit next to one another.
Prove me wrong, children, prove me wrong.
