fandom birthdays & movie ramblings - XMFC, HP7.2

Happy Birthday to:
Gackt (4th)
Kurosaki Ichigo (15th)
Uchiha Sasuke (23rd)

In other news, I realised how few movies I've watched this year. This is largely due to being in UK for almost 6 months, and movie ticket prices are just outrageous compared to Singapore. ^^" That and probably nothing seemed interesting.

Until X-Men: First Class, which my f-list should have figured out, seeing as there is already one fanfic written. And when there is one, there will be more! Just depends on how fast it comes out only. ^^"

XMFC is the only movie I've ever watched in the cinema THRICE. And I paid for it every single time. Haha. I've watched a couple of other movies like twice before, but I'm pretty sure none of them got me on such a craze as XMFC did. I blame it entirely on the spectacular bromance between Charles and Erik, as well as the bromance between James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender - Charles and Erik's actors respectively - in their interviews for XMFC.

They were... Perfection.

So many wonderful moments, and the actors played their roles perfectly! If not for their chemistry and dynamic, the movie would've flopped. Everything was riding on Erik and Charles' relationship, from how they met, how their friendship progressed and eventually why they had to go their separate ways.

I'll admit that my favourite moment was when Charles taught Erik how to fully access his powers. It also brought about a very stunning realisation that Charles effectively "created" Magneto, by teaching him the correct way to harness all his abilities. I had a "OMG" moment the first time in the cinema watching that moment, and then my heart broke slightly because everyone knows they went their separate ways - and the bromance was already nice and thick by that point.

Of course, the subsequent frames proved that their bromance could still shoot to higher levels. So touching, accessing that memory of Erik and his mother celebrating Hanukah (I hope I spelt it correctly)! And both of them shed tears. *sniffs* And the music for that scene. Spectacular. It was also very aptly entitled "Rage and Serenity".

Other enjoyable moments was the mutant recruitment roadtrip they went on. xD That entire sequence was very nicely done. I particularly love the Angel recruitment scene (though my love for that like tripled or something after finding out about a certain something about it), and Wolverine's cameo - of course, they didn't manage to recruit him. xD"

Oh the Angel recruitment scene! I did realise after that, that we didn't get to see Charles show off his powers to Angel before Angel shows them her mutation. Turns out, from interviews, that there was crossdressing involved, and it was Erik doing the crossdressing. Charles apparently used his powers to make Angel think Erik was crossdressing, or something to that effect. Unfortunately, it got cut out because the producers thought it was too risque. -.-" Here's hoping - and the 3 involved in that scene want it too xD - that it will be included in the DVD extras or have an uncut version. xD I do want to see Erik crossdressed~

As for Logan's cameo... Seriously. Hilarious. And seems to be pointing towards yaoi fangirl heaven. xD All Erik and Charles did was to introduce themselves to Logan, and Logan promptly tells them to "Go fuck yourselves." Erik and Charles look at each other and then walk out of the bar/pub. I presume that they were taking Logan's nice advice. xD

Most heartbreaking scene goes to The Beach Scene. Which can be split into so many moments. But to me at least, where The Beach Scene starts properly is when Erik deflects Moira's bullets and one of them hits Charles in the back.

Cue moment of realisation that Erik is the one who crippled Charles.

Then, in a way that made my heart squeeze a little with bittersweet joy, Erik drops the missiles he's been guiding towards the human troops and runs to Charles' side, supports him (puts a hand on his chest) and then comes as close to confessing love as it possibly can happen in a mainstream movie to Charles. My heart died a little with joy but knowing it can never be, it was a sad, sad moment too.

And when Charles basically rejected Erik, though not without tears in his eyes (not from the pain of the bullet, definitely not)... *wibbles*

I guess its apt that people nickname this the Beach Divorce.

The Beach Scene is also sad in that Charles bids goodbye to Raven (Mystique), whom is like his sister. It was already slightly heartbreaking at the beginning of the movie when Charles and Raven met as children and Charles immediately invited her to stay in his house forever, because of foreknowledge.

Sigh. I do hope there will be sequels. I don't care how it already screws up movie-verse X-Men, because this is so much better than pretty much all the other movies. *is biased* *doesn't care* xD

In more movie news, I've also watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. And cried a lot, though not as much as the book. Goes to show the book, is definitely better for HP. ^^" I wish they'd done some parts better, or rather, not have left out some parts.

For example, I thought it was mighty crucial to show Percy's reunion with his family, but that wasn't shown in the movie. D: Me, being me, I wanted to have seen them do Fred's death scene, and not just the aftermath. But well yeah, you know... not possible, seeing as they didn't even show Percy's reunion. And I wanted Harry to visit the Headmaster's Office again and have all the portraits clapping at the end of everything. But not there too. And I also wanted to see Harry using the Elder Wand to repair his wand. I thought it was really sweet in the book. He misses his own wand!

Also, why didn't Harry and Voldemort duel in the Great Hall in front of everyone? *is sad*

But all in all, the other important parts were well done. Snape's memories had me sobbing really badly (but omg, young!Snape SO CUTE), though I was already crying at seeing the bodies of those who'd died. Then the resurrection stone scene. *SNIFF*

The epilogue was interesting in that you see how they aged the actors. Haha. What Harry says to his son was also touching, but didn't get me crying much again, unlike in the book. ^^"

So with that, a great 7 book, 8 movie-long saga has come to a close. It was a long, wonderful journey and will always have a special place in my heart! Hmmm maybe after I return from Australia, I will go find the book to re-read. ^^
