~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~3 Weeks Prior~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mikey sighed as he listened to his brother and boyfriend argue again. Over the past week, things had gotten progressively worse between the two, leaving Mikey stuck somewhere in the middle.
"How much longer do you think they can go for," asked Bob.
Smiling ruefully, Mikey responded, "I don't know; they both can put on a pretty good bitch fit."
As if on cue, Gerard and Frank stormed into the kitchen where Bob and Mikey were seeking refuge.
"The music is not right, Frank!"
"Well, how am I supposed to know? You haven't written any lyrics yet!"
Mikey sucked in an audible breathe-he knew Gerard was touchy about his lack of inspiration. ("We've been here for three weeks, Mikes. But I can't write anything. It's like something is holding me back." "Didn't you have ideas before?" "i did...but they're not good enough. Not yet." "It'll happen, Gee. Don't worry. ")
"Oh, fuck you, Iero. Like you care. You're too busy trying to live up to Toro."
For a split second, the room was silent. Frank's eyes were wide-shock slowly bleeding into anger. Before he lashed out, Mikey stepped in.
"Don't, Frank. Let it go."
"Mikey..."
"Just go, Frank. I'll come later."
Frank departed from the kitchen, leaving Mikey alone with Bob and Gerard.
"Oh, so you're trying to save him now?"
"Gerard, I just don't want you two to fight. That's it."
"You can't defend both of us, Mikey."
"...What do you mean," he asked carefully.
Gerard started advancing on Mikey, slowly backing him against the kitchen wall.
"You cannot have both of us."
"Gee, I-"
"No. Listen to me."
Mikey was now pinned against the wall, his brother's body trapping him; keeping him prisoner. Both brothers had forgotten Bob, who was watching (waiting) for an to opportunity intervene.
"Pick one."
"No!"
"Mikey. Pick. One."
"I'm not choosing between you two!"
Gerard leaned into Mikey, speaking directly into his ear, "It's not that hard. Me or Frank. Pick."
"Gerard..."
"Pick, dammit!"
"FRANK! Alright? I pick-I choose Frank."
Gerard stepped away from Mikey. Completely removed himself from his space. "...Why him?"
"Because Frank would never make me choose," Mikey whispered.
He looked up then locking eyes with Gerard's, defiance shining within them. (There was an undercurrent of fear too-pure, heartbroken fear about what this meant for him and Gerard.)
"Alright then. You can have Frank. It'll just be like we never were."
"Like we never were what, Gee?"
But Gerard had turned away, refusing to acknowledge Mikey's words.
