Despite the annoying mad dash to holiday prep, and Justin losing 4 hours of his Wed evening to trying to find the owner of a dog he found wandering in traffic*, Thanksgiving went off without a hitch. Well, the turkey took longer to cook than we expected until J pointed out that the 5# boneless breast we also had in the oven was slowing the cooking time, so we fixed temps and stuff and dinner proceeded mostly on time. No political discussions, and we sent my niece home with a new hula hoop made from our supplies.
So today has been all about eating leftovers and reading fanfiction. I've put in a few loads of laundry and that's it. I may have eaten one piece of gingerbread too many, though.
I did make a correction comment to a Hannibal fic I read. To backtrack, I said to
damejenn that, as someone who lives in Baltimore, I feel like I ought to offer myself up as a beta to writers who want fact/geographic checks for when they want to use the Baltimore/D.C. area as a setting. It has bugged me that the show condenses the distance between it's local locations. Quantico, Wolf Trap (which is not a town, it's actually a park), D.C., and Baltimore are all a distance from each other, without accounting for the inevitable terrible traffic in between. This fic had the distance from the D.C. area to a restaurant in Baltimore as about a 20 minute car ride. Then the chef of the restaurant, a well known one in Baltimore, was mentioned as being a "he", when in fact it's a woman, something easily noted if you check their website. If you're going into specifics please do simple fact checking, and please don't erase the presence of women, especially a woman who is an award winner and top in her field. I complimented the writing, as I enjoyed the rest of it, but that error yanked me right out of the story and I fact checked just to make sure I hadn't missed something about the restaurant. I'm guessing that's not something you want happening to your reader.
And now I'm off to fight with the Amazon Mp3 downloader. I was trying to use it over iTunes as my phone is an Android, but it's so difficult to get my mp3 purchases I might just give up.
