Crisis in Sri Lanka

Feb 01, 2009 22:07

I want to make sure everyone is aware. i feel like no one realizes my grandmother, uncles and aunty are stranded along with 250,000 Tamil civilians in the Northern part of Sri Lanka. As the Sri Lankan army has closed in on the Tamil Tiger territory to claim back the rebel-held land, the civilians are caught in the crossfire. Aid agencies are being refused entry and only recently the critically injured civilians were allowed to leave.  We haven't heard from my family but are hoping no news means they are surviving. No doubt there isn't much food or any clean facilities as they will be in tents or in hiding.

If you're in London, check out Sky news when you can. They are finally reporting, weeks after the intense fighting began.

To my friends and colleagues, please just be aware of the situation and always look for more information. Each media report I have watched or read is so differently sided. In the end, all I want to hear is that the civilians will be safe.  If you are politically swayed, start looking for those petitions to sign too!

Thanks for reading and keep in touch. I miss so many of you!!

Peace,
Kavitha
