What were your favorite nursery rhymes?
Tomorrow will be the first "full" day of school for 21 of my students. The 8 youngest children in my class (called "summer born" because they JUST TURNED 4!!) will leave before lunch. It is an interesting idea but works for me to do some extension activities with the older bunch I suppose. We already began assessing these poor tiny people based on how many letters of the alphabet they can name, and which phonetic sounds they know. There is loads of paperwork for our assessment in reception because we have to follow them around and take anecdotal notes!
They are so cute.
Here's a list of recent goings on:
- last week the older kids had their first lunch. Some for school lunch, some for packed lunch. The government had recently initiated a free meal for parents of reception children to come and eat with their kids during their first ever school lunch. This proved to be a logistical nightmare as school lunches are not run by teachers, but by "dinner ladies". This meant the teacher had to organize her students into several groups: going home, packed lunch, school diner w/out parent and school dinner w/ parent. Then there was escorting parents to their children while explaining to the children w/out a parent that their mom would not be coming until after lunch. Then helping them cut up their meat and stuff b/c some don't yet know how. But that was taking the dinner ladies jobs so we had to be careful not to tread on their territory. THEN to further the confusion by sending the mom-less childern outside to play with the big kids for 1/2 an hour!!! There was more to it than I've just said but I feel I'm making no sense. And this was meant to be point form.
I'm missing people. I live now with a family-friend aunty who herself is a bit lonely, and who I don't have much connection with. She's nice and of course looking after me, but I miss having other people around...? Dare I say, I miss having a sibling??? I wonder if my sis will even read up to here :P
My weekend was uneventful as well. Still trying to buy a coat. Shops are walking distance from here which is AMAZING and since the weather has been great, I have been walking every where.
This is boring. England is in no way a culture shock for me. Work is great, I am so lucky!! Everything else is blah. I want my social life with my job now. I want to live with my man happily ever after. I suppose the root of this is missing him. And my mom's curry. And my friends meeting me for a beer or a coffee or a show or just to shop with!!!!! Shopping alone sucks!
I have my awesome cousins tho, phew for that!
Time to get to work.
Peace.
