Some people are suprised by the fact, but then I think it just means I haven't seen them in the last four months anyways and therefore the next 4 months really won't be that different, will it?
I start my job on Aug 27th in a school called
Avenue Primary School in Sutton, Surrey, UK. I have to say where because everyone asks where! I don't even know myself! The school itself seems quite well established compared to the horror stories many teachers hear about in the inner-city London areas. My class will no doubt be challenging as I have 30 students in KINDERGARTEN! It is called "Reception" now in the UK and the kids are 4-5 years old. Being their first teacher EVER will be nerve wracking. Well, some kids would have been in care, others may not know English! I have yet to find out how their admission system works but since it's a community school ("public school" in England is the equivalent to our private school here) I'm sure it is open to all residents living close by.
Of course it's EXCITING! I'm not sure what to expect when I walk in, meet the head teacher, get shown to my classroom and just START. I'll have a week to set up and get training so I'm extremely grateful for that! My job is covering a maternity leave and is meant to end in Dec 2007. My plans after that are to wait and see where Rez gets a job and follow my man! May be England, States, Timbuktu... but I'm willing to go after gaining this experience.
So my "move" is indefinite, but for now I am moving in with my mom's sister and her family who will look after me well! It's a move to gain experience, have my own classroom and start some savings... it's not a trip to gain much independence and live on my own! I'll need to learn to cook at another date :P
So my plane leaves on Thursday and I work this weekend Mon - Wed at Kids Club. I would love to have coffee with everyone before I go, but time will not permit. I do have faith we'll cross paths in the next year, either you people stopping over in London (already a handful of ya will come to visit!) or my return to Vancouver in the next few months. I'm sure I'll be back!
Love ya and will miss ya! Thanks for the support, love, interest and just being the greatest people I will ever meet. It's bittersweet leaving Richmond where I grew up and moving closer to family and friends who knew me as a baby in England. Life will get interesting from here!
Cheerio!
