You're not the only one who's had that type of reaction. And personaly I can forgive a lot of stuff for a good story, but... yeah. The shows always played fast and loose with certain myths and obviously some things just don't work in a modern setting, but there's adapting things to the story and then there's just NOT DOING THE GODDAMNED RESEARCH!!

I'm okay with Baldur being alive, because well, myths are myths and okay... maybe he'll just go and die later or something. And the being married... well being immortal and all, well relationships don't last forever and a lot of god's aren't all that faithful anyway. (And Kali is an item with Shiva and Loki should be married too). But damn it all to hell, you don't just kill Baldur off like that, because pretty much the only thing that guy has going for him in the whole awesome god powers department is the fact that he's invulnerable to everything except friggin mistletoe.

...ah, I'll be quiet now. You just reminded me of all the issues I have with this episode.

haha, good to know!

yeah, I'll forgive a lot of it too, like Baldur being alive. Time functions differently in God world, after all. But there are some things that would have been so easy to fix, like Odin having one eye and Baldur being blond and blue-eyed, and not having all of them eating people, for chrissakes.

And this wasn't real Loki, right? Just Gabriel/Trickster posing as Loki? Because I will NOT be happy if Loki is somehow supposed to be a fusion with Gabriel the archangel. That just makes no sense.

And I totally agree about the Baldur killing. It's just - that is such a huge part of who he is and what his story is. Banishing I would be totally okay with, but the killing is just too much.

I have a lot of feelings~

Since I have no knowledge about Gods I can't say anything about that episode, and also 'cause I haven't seen it yet.

Go watch the rest before VanCon!

Yeah, fandom as a whole had a pretty similar reaction to this episode - like, SPN, you tried, but you failed hard. Though it's often more along the lines of the racism inherent in the idea that they bring in major world religions and still explicitly state the the Judeo-Christian one is blatantly more powerful and superior; it's interesting to see from a point of your knowledge of the relevant mythology just how bad they fucked that up TOO. OH SPN! I respect the idea they wanted to bring in - the acknowledgement of other religions - but the execution was sooooooo bad. :/

Enjoy Vancon!!

yeah. I mean, I can get behind the idea that the more people believe in a deity the more powerful it is, which would make Lucifer pretty powerful compared to, say, Odin and Baldur, since there aren't that many people that actively worship them today although they definitely live in culture and popular culture, but the other ones? Preeeetty sure a lot of people are Hindi, for example. So the ethnocentrism and racism inherent in that is just ... unbelievable. And sure, I can forgive a lot of stuff, but there are so many things that could have been done better with just a LITTLE bit of changes - like Odin's eye, Baldur having blue eyes, and THE PEOPLE EATING omg. I think that might be the thing that bothers me the most (plus the, you know, god killing). I could rant about this for a while. :P

but omg omg OMG I finished the last episode I am all caught up SQUEEE!!!! :D :D :D D:!
