Summary: (Begins just after "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix")...That scent grows stronger as the second oldest nears another darkened house, a small bundle on the front step. His interest and concern is piqued at the wisps of a soul so terribly young, and death mingling with that cloying scent. The second oldest crouched on the stoop, gently taking a paper thing from the bundle as he prowled closer, gently sniffing the infant pup left in the cold with a single covering for warmth. The abandonment tears at him, refuses to let him just turn and leave the pup behind...

Chapter 2:
"Vincent Awakens"

Vincent was only dimly aware of the familiar scent the Galian Beast had recently encountered but he really should have expected the sight that greeted him the next morning, when he noticed the glow in Sephiroth’s room was absent. However, it wasn’t a sight he was resentful of seeing.

Aisea was sitting at the island in a spill of blues, her shoes abandoned on the floor and her knees loosely drawn to her chest and wrapped in her sarong skirts. She was staring off into space with a cup of tea in her hands, her black hair (braids and all) draped down her sari-clad right shoulder, her glasses absent from her usually appearance. Lost in thought and a lovely as her crystalline likeness, Vincent could once more reach towards her and feel her, as he had long grown used to…and damn, had he missed this feeling of another so close to him like this.

The brilliant amber spike in her amethyst eyes was fading when she turned her head towards him, a soft smile curving her pretty lips. Vincent knew that look all too well, having one almost identical of his own.

“Welcome back, Aisea.” Vincent greeted as he drew closer. “I see you found Sephiroth’s tea without a problem.”

“His fault for drinking the same brand I do.” Aisea remarked softly, tucking her thin braids behind her left ear. “…Cassius said I had been asleep for a couple months…it was much longer in Valhalla…”

“From what I understand, Etro tends to know what Her Champions and Priestess require of Her, even if they don’t know it themselves.” Vincent knew she would have to adjust; Lightning, Fang and Serah as well. They would have an easier time of it. Unlike Aisea, they didn’t know how much time had passed in Valhalla-such was the curse of the Arc of Time.

“How’d Papa handle it?” Aisea asked softly, staring into her tea.

“Angeal was…upset, understandably…but he agreed it would be unfair for anyone to tell you to just swallow your grief. He was asking Sephiroth of your status every day, last I heard. He will be happy that you’ve woken from your hibernation.”

“I wouldn’t mind going flying…it’s one thing I had forgotten about Valhalla, can’t fly there.” Aisea murmured softly into her tea as she raised the cup to her lips. Vincent understood the joy of flight quite well and knew how it itched (for the lack of a better word) to have the inability to do so.

Vincent saw the light of the dawn seeping in from around the curtains. It was much less hassle to fly during the night. AVALANCHE still liked to take pot shots at any SOLDIER, let alone their children.

“Cassius is in the shower.” Aisea informed Vincent. “He said we should stop by my place to get cleaned up because we have upkeep today…but I have a couple more days.”

“You entered your grace period before you turned to crystal. I doubt Rufus would be pleased if you took greater chance with your life to wait those ‘couple more days’.” Vincent earned a dark mutter in Northern Wutainese, making him chuckle. “It should be a welcome surprise for Angeal, for you to return home as he wakes up for the day.”

Aisea lowered her cup. “Vincent, may I ask a question?”

Vincent knew what she was going to ask. “It eases after time but it doesn’t mean you cannot come to love another. It simply means this next time, it’s to fill those cracks and resulting gaps, instead of a matching compliment.”

“…is that what Cid is?” Aisea asked, her voice so soft Vincent almost missed it.

“For me, yes. That’s exactly what Cid is.” Vincent nodded with a small smile. “And sometimes, that new person, is one you’ve been tripping over for years, the one whom knows you better than yourself.”

The melodious jingle of keys and ornaments got Aisea’s attention to the mouth of the hall. Cassius stood there with her belt in his hand and a small half smile on his face.

“Best not keep Angeal waiting.” Vincent advised.
