[there's the sound of the communication device being fumbled with, and then what sounds like a girl coughing a bit before she speaks. She sounds just a whee bit worried.]

Ah... hello? Can, can anyone tell me when this ship will be reaching a port? [Another cough, now she sounds sheepish as if she didn't want that to be heard.]I just, I need to ( Read more... )

You are from a laboratory as well? What manner of research do you do there?

And I am not certain of when the ship shall reach port. No one I have spoken to seems to know the answer, either. I was told that no one shall worry while we are aboard, though I am not certain how such a feat would be accomplished.

Robotics, and I just help D-- Doctor Light with his work. And make sure he eats properly.

... I can't. I have to get back to the Lab, they'll start worrying about me, and everything will be a mess!

Robotics. That sounds like a rather fascinating subject. I myself have worked on genetics and biology, with some work in chemistry and kinesiology. Does the doctor often lose track of time during his work?

I do not believe there is a way to return, unfortunately. However, the first mate of the vessel told me that Father would not worry while I was away. I can only assume that to mean he is aware of my present location and has approved of it. Are you concerned they will not be able to continue the work whilst you are away?

I guess it could be? And wow, I've never met a geneticist or biologist. ... and yes, yes he does. Unfortunately.

[Takes a moment to process what she's been told, trying to be calm as well.]

It's more my brothers who I am worried about, the Doctor should be fine outside of well... Eating. But I have, um... Really protective siblings?

I have never worked with technology beyond what has been designed for our experiments. It would be interesting to work in such a different field. Robotics can be most useful, from my understanding. And it is most kind of you to keep him in good health, in that instance. It sounds as though he is fortunate to have someone like you to work with.

Father could be quite protective as well, thus my original concern. Perhaps they shall not notice you have left? I do not have any true siblings, so I am not familiar with how they might react in such a situation.

Oh, I see. Well robotics are very important back home, so much so. [a cough.] I have to take care of him, he's my father after all.

I... I don't know. I only leave the lab to go shopping for things we need, like food or items for cleaning, so if I don't return after a certain amount of time they will worry. I'm almost certain they will.

Oh... you work alongside your father as well? It can be quite a rewarding experience.

I hope that they will not. It appears to be quite safe on board this vessel. [Guess who hasn't been around that long?] Perhaps they were informed of your absence, somehow?

Mmhmm! Although I just assist, I wasn't built for lab work really.

I hope so too. And... Maybe, but they'll still worry. It's how they are.

I often do little more than assist myself, so that is quite understandable.

It must be wonderful to have a true family who is concerned about you.

[After a brief pause...]

My apologies, but did you say you were built?

[Whoops, not sure if she should tell folks that she is very much not human. But screw any warnings from Proto!]

Ahaha... yes, I did. And I guess I should introduce myself as well. My name is Roll, Doctor Light Number 002, and I'm a robot.

[It actually takes her a long time to reply back, because she's actually a little stunned.]

I am Test Subject RD-01, though some here have taken to calling me Panda for short. I am an anthrid, a combination of human and animal DNA.

[Another pause before she can type again.]

I cannot believe there are others who are in such similar situations. Though I do wish sometimes Father would permit me a name, like yours has for you.

[Roll would totally apologize for stunning Panda, but she does not know that she did that.]

... Ah. [She's trying to picture it, it's much cuter than reality really is though.] And Panda is a good nickname.

... That's not right. Although Dad made me and my brother to be household robots and assistants we're also his children. Although naming us Rock and Roll was silly.

It does accurately convey my precursor species, the red panda. I do wonder, at times, if those in the laboratory used it derisively, however.

I cannot be certain of Father's true feeling as it relates to me. He has often told me that I am of lesser station than others around me. At the same time, he has protected me from the fear that much of the world might regard me with.

Why do you consider Rock and Roll to be silly names?

Ah, well if they used it that way? Then they're not very nice people and you shouldn't care about that.

... [That's kind of sad to hear, although technically Roll is just considered property back home. Dr. Light is very much the exception to the rule.] Then your Father is a good man if he protects you from those who'd hurt you, or be afraid of you.

[She laughs now, most people tend to get it as soon as it's spoken so this is new.] Rock and Roll is a genre of a music, so me and my older brother were named after that in a way.

They were in higher positions than my own, however. Should I not take their sentiments to heart?

The world seems to have far too many people who feel both those ways. I am glad to hear that your father also protects you from those who might harm you.

A type of music? I cannot say that I have ever heard of it. [Yes, she's a VERY sheltered young woman.]

You should never take people being mean to you, in any form, at all. It's just not right. [Meet Roll's somewhat black and white view of the world.] Of course that doesn't mean you should be rude, or mean back, because then you're just as bad as them.

Ahaha... Dad isn't the fighter of the family, that's my brothers job it seems.

[Surprised, sadly Roll doesn't have any samples of rock and roll music to share. Perhaps someday she will find some so Panda can hear it.] It's a very, um... A very varied genre? It's hard to explain it, but I bet if there's a radio on board this ship I could find some of it and you could listen to it, Miss.
