The Freedom To Love

The PinkDot Event is definitely a landmark in history.
Kudos to the organisers and Roy for the being the spark of the idea.
I'd seen Roy a few times.
He's a common man on the street.
Yet, if not for him, and the pinkdot team, this event would remain  just a dream.

Volunteered for the event together with my partner in crime S.
@ 1pm, we were wondering if we were at the right place.
As volunteers slowly thronged in, the organisers @ PinkDot gave us the details of the day,
and broke us into smaller groups.

Soon we were getting ready for the event, mainly blowing up pink balloons.
We were @ the helium station so i guess it was easier!
Jokes flowed naturally although we were mostly strangers.
Once in a while, a balloon would pop, followed by gasps and yelps. =p

Curiously there was a group of men doing their "Strongmen" practice in the vicinity.
Lifting and heaving truck tyres as they wandered why is everyone in pink.
One volunteer tied 2 ballons to one of their lifting bars.
It's kinda hilarious to see the hunk lifting dat with the 2 pink balloons. =)

Soon, it was D-Day H-hour and it was full steam ahead!
As i walked around giving out the day's flyers, packets of tissue as well as pink plastic groundsheets.
With the early arrivals, the park slowly transformed into a picnic ground.
The contrast of pink among the greenery blended into a beautiful scene.

It is heartwarming to see people of all walks of life attending.
I remember a particular family came here to celebrate someone's birthday, birthday cake and all.
Other groups was in full picnic mode, with their cocktails and finger food!
LGBT, it didn't matter who or what you are today.
Afterall, it is just a small part of who you are, as someone had put it.

Ran into many familiar faces too!
Friends whom touched my life before in one way or another.
As we shared the laughter once again.
It felt like yesterday once more.

As the crowd grew, and the sun starts to take his rest,
It was soon time to shine and form the pink dot !

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ! !
Pink umbrellas opened like the blooming of a flower!
As balloons are released and dotted the sky pink!
Everyone was smiling! cheering! whistling!
Mr Sun must've been secretly smiling too,
seeing a curious pink dot formed in his shape.

As with all good things.
it must come to an end.
Yet, something's different in the air.
As everyone goes back to their own lives,
it remains as a moment in time.
etched in pink. =)
