Query:

Does anyone know the scientific studies that the whole Theory of Mind autism stuff is founded on? The studies that claim to show autistic people lack this? I have this urge to write a post ripping the entire concept to shreds, including the scientific evidence (I've heard a few accounts of the experiment that was purported to show this and could come up with four alternate not nearly as dehumanising explanations off the top of my head, sooo) but first I have to find it. Searching "theory of mind autism" on Pubmed gives me 366 results, apparently due to the fact that this is now generally considered scientific fact and so a lot of papers on other things just mention it in their abstracts. After reading three of these I was ready to destroy things. If I have to look through all 366 I will probably implode, and I haven't even touched Web of Knowledge or other sites I can access yet.

ETA: have had the smrt idea of starting from the oldest papers, which are sometime in the mid-eighties so it'll probably still be a trawl. Also, can't currently access the full text, just the abstracts, but I should be able to at uni.

Although. Reading the abstracts.

You know. I'm not much of a drinker. I've never been drunk and don't want to. I was totally anti-alcohol up until a few years past legal German drinking age. I still essentially only drink wine to be social, and no more than two small glasses of that in one go, either.

So believe me that it really, really means something when I say:

In order to get through this shit I am going to need alcohol.
