Looks like you already know how to do a custom layout and how to add friends and whatnot. Firstly let me point you to a few communities that will make your livejournal experience a little more interesting, or helpful.
art_theft Is a good place. If you ever see your work stolen somewhere you can go to these folks for help or advice. A good community to watch too. Also, speaking of this, you might want to put your work through tineye to make sure that it's not stolen elsewhere.
artists_beware Is good if you are doing commissions and you want to watch out for those bad eggs out there that want to rip you off, or annoy you. You can also report bad commissioners there for help or advice on how to handle them.
teenycom A place to sell 10$ and under commissions. A good place to make a quick buck.
cute_moodthemes I think there is a Raichu moodtheme somewhere in there.
You can peruse my community list for any others that catch your fancy, or you can search for them by interest.
Uhmuhm what else, uhh, oh yeah LJ uses html code, so it's pretty easy to set up an entry. Also if there's anything else you need to know, don't hesitate to ask!

Oh! You have such pretty... everything! How did you do all that? What with the setup and the dashed lines around the borders and the pretty backgrounds and and.. and the LITTLE HENZIES. BAAAAWWWWWW DEY SO CUTE.
Honestly, I still don't know what I'm doing. I can't figure out moods or all that fanciness yet! I used a preset theme, but I dunno how to customize it or anything. I want mine to look more like yooooours. ;^;
Sorry if I'm being so annoying. I'm just sooo lost. :

Aww your not being annoying, I told you to ask if you wanted help :3 It's not biggie. Anyhoot, since I'm terrible at explaining things I put together some pretty straightforward visuals you can look at. It's pretty easy once you know where everything is :D
http://img69.imageshack.us/i/step2w.jpg/ Once you click "customize selected theme" you have a bunch of links in the left sidebar. That's where you can customize your journal and all that. As for moodthemes, I found a cute raichu one you can use. (Download the first zip file.) Once you do that, go to "edit/create custom moodthemes" name your moodtheme and create. Find a good place to host all of the moods, like photobucket. In the editor you put the direct links from photobucket into where it specifies you to put a URL of a specific mood, pretty simple. The zip file contains a readme file that'll help you with setting moods as well.
Check the "inherit from" box if you want that corresponding mood to be the same as whatever it specifies, because some moods will use the same gif to express it.
The options to edit borders and such are under the "additional options" on this page. Just scroll down until you see it, it's a blue bar with a drop down arrow.
