Richard, Kahlan, Zedd and Cara sat in a private booth in the corner of the tavern. They had found out about a nearby library that held a rare book which gave details of the location of the Stone of Tears. Unfortunately, the library was in a fortified manor house and they would have to break in and steal the book.“I’ve already gone over this a hundred times.” complained Zedd, “Ok, once more. I will cause a distraction at the front of the house with a display of magical fireworks, while everyone is watching you will go to the side door. If it is answered by Mary, she is the sister of Blake Smith the Innkeeper of this tavern and she will take you through the kitchens to Brey the cook, he’s her fiancé and he will guide you up the servants staircase to Sergeant Kapten who will take you to the library to meet Derik the cleric. However, if it is answered by Marie who is the cousin of Iann Keeper the blacksmith she will guide you through the cellars to Trey the butler, he will take you the main staircase to meet Captain Sarjent, who will take you to the library meet Erik the cleric.
“So let me get this straight,” said Richard “If I meet Marie I ask for Brey.”
“No never do that.” said Zedd
“Why not?” asked Richard “I thought you said she was engaged to Brey.”
“Marie, used to be engaged to Brey, but he broke it off.” said Zedd
“Why?” Asked Kahlan
“Does it matter? Why can’t we just kill everyone and find the book afterwards?” said Cara
“Because there are innocent people in the house.” said Kahlan
The two women glared at each other as Richard continued. “So then I see the Sergeant or the Captain?”
“Tray will take you to Sergeant Kapten and Bray to Captain Sarjent.” Said Zedd
“They both have the same name.” said Kahlan “Isn’t that confusing?”
“Not at all.” said Zedd “One is a Sergeant the other a Captain, I don’t know why you all find this so difficult to understand.”
“Can I just kill just one person?” said Cara staring at Zedd. Kahlan kicked her under the table.
"Then in the library, I meet Derik or Eric? Asked Richard
Zedd gave a sigh “Sergeant Kaptan knows Derik the cleric, but he does not know Eric the cleric but, Captain Sarjent knows Derik the cleric and Eric the cleric. So, what do you think?”
There was a long pause.
“I think,” said Richard “I have a headache.”
