another weekend of traveling has come and gone.
i've been trying to hang out, and especially travel, with different groups of people because i'd hate to be cliquey while i'm over here and not meet any new people at all! so i've been really putting myself out there and separating myself from my roommate and getting to know people on a more-than-just-surface basis and it's been great. this past weekend i went to sorrento, capri and pompeii with a few girls who live in my hall.
took the a 6 hour train ride down to naploli. train ended up being so packed and we didn't have "reservations" for the cabins so i ended up standing for 2 hours and met these military boys
with who i practiced my italian with. this guy asked me to marry him and i had to cut myself out of this picture because i look absolutely awful. i was smiling so big cuz i was so giddy.
unfortunately, it never would've worked out for me and felice. if only he was jude law and if only he lived in siena, i would've said yes. oh those italians..
arrived in naples and went straight to sorrento. naples is shady and dirty and i had no desire to stay there for more than i had to. stayed at my first youth hostel which ended up to be pretty good. i brought my dreamsack with me again so it turned out okay. sorrento is the cutest little town.

you will definitely find the hot italians on their scooters at this location. i thought i was in heaven when i turned the corner and saw this.
the amalfi coast is breathtaking.
we took a 15 minute boat ride to the island of capri.
a few of us
wanted to check out the famous "blue grotto" and payed 16 euros to do it. it took about 20 minutes to get there, and we then ended up sitting in ridiculous boat traffic
for about an hour and a half waiting for these rowers to come and pick us up in their rowboats in which they can only carry 4 people at a time. so we rocked back and forth for an hour and a half, watching this guy throw up over the edge of our boat and having to stare at these two guys' ridiculously ginormous moose knuckles.
i was so pissed off at all this ridiculousness but hey, look at me and the ocean!
so we finally got into the boat which we all had to lay down in

and then we were stuck with the rower's butt in our faces

and then had to lay down all the way to get into the grotto because the opening of it is like a whole 2 feet tall.

and once inside, there was just more ridiculousness because our rower was trying to narrate the story of the blue grotto and of its natural blueness, but the echoing of all the other rower's narrations + singing made it hard to understand. and then our rower started to sing and row and i was laughing and crying at the same time because i was in shock at how much money and time i just wasted but continued to take more pictures

i do admit, it is pretty cool to see that natural electric blue water, but after only getting one minute in there and having to get back on the main boat, i was so mad. i gave it a thumbs down.

but then we got back on land and i got myself some strawberry shortcake + banana gelato and i was 100% happy again.
capri is beautiful

i think i could've stood on the hill and watched the view forever. but i saw this
and it made me cry, but in a good way. capri is a funny island though. just a bunch of high end stores
and lavish resorts and older people dressed up really nicely and talking on their cell phones.
and.. i hope i find these
at the prada outlet next week. yes, please.
went back to sorrento that night and had dinner and went to a fancy wine bar. mmmmerlot.
pompeii on sunday was awesome. having studied about this place and seeing numerous pictures over the past few years, i never thought i'd get to see this place in real life, but i did and it was amazing.
walking among these ruins

and getting to see the frozen people

just blew me away. i took pictures of the girls in their prom poses in front of the columns.
how clever. and there i am standing on top of this awesome theatre.
and then there was the highlight of everyone's trip: the brothel.

and here's a bed from the brothel.
that seriously couldn't have felt good. yay pompeii!

so it's my birthday on saturday and it's going to be sad not having my good friends around to celebrate and love me, but phonecalls/text messages are welcome! 011-39-338-145-2230. <3333
