went to amsterdam this past weekend to visit my cousin who lives there. it was a very short weekend trip, too short to take in all of amsterdam. but i found out that i love that beautiful city and i need to go back. soon.

so apparently over there they have this christmas tradition where "sinterklaus" has a bunch of black helpers. so at this time of year, you'll find the helpers randomly wandering around the city and popping into random public places and speaking in gibberish and dancing around. the thing is, they're not actually black people doing this, but white people in blackface. does anyone else find this disturbing?
i had the pleasure of encountering one during my first dinner there.
the city is gorgeous all dolled up in its christmas lights.
it definitely made the cold weather more bearable.
got some drinks
and i got friendly with the santa.
then we went dancing til 4:30 in the morning.
i kinda dig dutch people.

the next day after trying to eat my hangover away, i saw this awesome chess game going on.

then my cousin let me go around the city for a few hours by myself.
i spent a good amount of time at the van gogh museum
and the rest of the time just wandering around.

found the anne frank house
but i didn't have enough time to go in. got myself some of those holland fries that everyone raves about though. fries and mayo, mmm..
then my cousin and his friend took me over to the red light district, where i was able to sneak in one picture (of the empty part of the district) without getting beaten up by any pimps.
the red light district was actually really interesting and i seriously thought 80% of those girls were hot. went out for drinks, again.
and got friendly with the santa, again.
and went to the same dance club, again. but i didn't have as much fun the second time around. i regret not having called my new dutch friend back. oh well.

the plane ride home was empty,
and all i could think about was getting back to siena.

11 days.
