here's a leftover picture from rome: me & the colosseum. yay!
thanksgiving was nice. i missed my family a lot since we always do something every year, but i think the program directors did a good job organizing a nice trip out to the countryside at a restaurant that attempted to give us an american/thanksgiving meal thanksgiving meal consisting some italian soup, pumpkin lasagna, turkey/veggies/mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, and of course wine.
our wine class got to take a hike through the woods
up to this castle where we learned how to analyze/taste wine.
and here we are looking like a bunch of orphans on the side of the road.
and some people looking so cute on these benches.
and me and dee.
then we got some free time to play
and that's when i played some capture the flag and sprained my ankle running like crazy. but dinner was nice.
it's about a 5.5 hour train ride to venice from siena, but we weren't able to get any seats for the first 2 hours so we had to sit in the aisles. oh, how we love italian public transportation.
but then we got seats and played cards the rest of the way.
i learned how to play gin and now i'm addicted.
the second we got there and saw the water
i was so happy. i've always wanted to go to venice and it's just a completely different feeling than all the other cities i've visited in italy. i mean, come on, water taxis!
our hostel had a ridiculous curfew (yes, curfew!!) of 11:30, and because we got in at about 11:00, our dinner consisted of a bottle of wine, some soda and some vending machine chips.
worst dinner ever. and not only did the curfew entail that we had to be inside the hostel by 11:30, but that we be in our rooms (which were separated by gender!) by that time. worst hostel ever. oh yeah, and not to mention the fact that i had to limp around the entire time with my gimp ankle.
the next morning we took the taxi
and hit up the dali exhibition.
saw these folks on the way there.
walked around the city for a bit and paid for a gondola ride.
me and kristine had a romantic time.
and then i found some santas in gondolas!
then there was piazza san marco, known for its infamous pigeons.
it was a little scary, but i had to do it.
the next morning we checked out of the nazi hostel. booo to the curfew!
took the taxi to the train station so that we could head to verona. it was freaking cold in venice
but good thing it didn't rain or else it would've flooded. oh, and i thought this was funny.
verona. the city of romeo and juliet. and i never even knew how beautiful it was until this past weekend.
we stopped by juliet's balcony, where the walls were covered with love letters and couples' initials in hearts and the like.
kristine and i had a romantic time, once again.
here's juliet's balcony
and her statue which it is said that if you touch her right boob, you'll get good luck in love forever. so we did.
we were only able to stay in verona for 2 hours, but i fell in love and i'm definitely coming back. i wouldn't mind living there for awhile..
p.s. 18 days til i come home. watch out.
