Darn It!

Well, the secondskein is in the mail...I had fun spinning it and am on my second lap purchase. "Provence Bleu". Simply glorious stuff from Leah of Yarn or a Tale.Branching out is now about 12" long, and FULL of mistakes.I will see how it looks when it is blocked. I suppose it could always be cut up and included in a felt project! i also managed to darn a sock. It's lumpy and ugly, but now I can keep the sock!

So here are pics from the dye workshop. We started with stock 1% solutions in magenta, blue, yellow and black and ended up with a huge pile of yarn samples to put in a notebook. This is a set of dye gradations.

Then the dye has to be set. Our samples were steamed until the dye sets or "strikes", They were bagged to keep the dye from spreading from one sample to another
Then they were rinsed and dried before being distributed.
I managed to sneak in a degummed silk cocoon, and later that night I managed to get all my samples entered into my dye notebook. The coocoon "matwa" is on the left. Both projects turned out pretty good,

Spinning at school has been pretty good. I have to get spindle and wool to one of my 2nd graders, and I really wish we could do clubs. For legal reasons, I don't have pics of work on this blog!

For those of you to celebrate--
